A minor Mesoamerican POD

Tlahuicole was a captured Tlaxcallan prisoner of war who impressed the Aztec leader Montezuma with his fighting that he allowed him to live and offered him to command Aztec soldiers to fight against the Tarascans. He led the Aztecs into victory. Montezuma offered to make Tlahuicole an official member of the Aztec nobility but the man refused, saying that accepting it would be betraying his people. He instead begged for Montezuma to allow himself to be ritually sacrificed, not before killing several of the Empire's best knights.

What if he did accept Montezuma's offer? Mind you, this was just a few years prior to Cortes' arrival onto the mainland and the thought of him commanding the Mexica against the Spaniards sounds pretty damn fun.

Hmm, I actually wonder what his effect on Tlaxcala would be. He might even help in defeating them before Cortez arrives, or possibly turns them against the Spanish after his arrival. Either way, without Tlaxcala helping the conquistadors, Cortez himself and his group are certainly, for lack of a better word, fucked.

I'm not so sure that he would participate in defeating them. He can sure help bridge the gap between the Mexica and the Tlaxcallans. From what little information there is of him, he seemed to be the sort of person who can send the Spaniards off to their boats. I'm not sure when the event regarding Tlahuicole happened but he could also have an effect on the previous Grijalva and de Cordoba expeditions as well.

Yeah, bridging the gap would be rather important. Maybe he can help make a deal with Xicotencatl the Younger? It would be interesting if Tlaxcala was able to join the Triple Alliance, or at least become an ally. Although perhaps getting rid of Tlacaelel's laws would be necessary, as Tlaxcala was considered a chief enemy and one that provided lots of valuable sacrifices. This certainly isn't impossible, I don't think his reforms were considered sacrosanct, certainly there were people who questioned them. Getting rid of Motecuzoma Xocoyotzin would also help, imbecile that he was.

However I doubt any of this would effect the Grijalva or Cordoba expeditions, those two were all taking place in the Yucatan. Hell, Cordoba had to retreat back to Cuba after getting his ass handed to him by Tarantula Fingers in Campeche.

The Tlaxcallans were composed of four main cities. Tizatlan had the military power and commanded the Tlaxcallan armies. Xicohtencatl I the Elder was the de jure ruler of the city though he was an old and very feeble man so most of the decisions were done or influenced by his son Xicohtencatl II. I can see Xicohtencatl II agreeing to peace and, later on, an alliance when it comes to confronting the Spanish. Maxixcatzin, ruler of Ocotelolco (economic powerhouse out of the four cities), might protest this. Could we see a fracturing happeningwithin the Tlaxcallan ranks?

This in itself makes a very good premise for a Mesoamerican timeline.

My misunderstanding, I apologize.
