A Marvel 'Timmverse'?

In the title more or less, but what would it have taken to get something similar to the DCAU for Marvel's cartoons in the 1990's? Not essentially get Bruce Timm himself or the various other creative team working on it but building up a cohesive, well-animated and well written animated universe starting with the X-Men cartoon and going on from there. Not saying that the Marvel cartoons lacked that as such but it could have been handled a bit better.

One thing to probably start off with is giving the creators a fair bit more budget for the animation and getting a style that's a bit more fluid and a lot more freedom from the censors. Anyone else have any thoughts?

Hrm.

Well, starting with the X-Men and Spider-man, I think a little more Budget and freedom will go along way.
Y'know, Let Spider-man actually Punch people, change the lasers back to normal guns, less neutering to Morbius and The Punisher, tweaks here and there like that.

Keeping Avi Arad around might be a boost too.

Iron Man and the Fantastic Four are probably doomed, though.
Both of those would need to be tweaked from the beginning so they're less campy and more well received.

Hulk is harder, so I'm not really sure how to save that.

I would imagine all of this would either drastically change the Silver Surfer and Avengers: United they stand cartoons, or outright get rid of them.

Well the cartoons do crossover a little though the only major one is "Secret wars" in the fifth season of Spider-man, but I think the problem here is that you need someone who's prepared to take risks. That mean's more gun play, heroes actually allowed to use force, and probably avoiding the neutering of adapted storylines.

Also if you don't intend to have the punisher be...well the Punisher leave him on the bench, you can't really have the punisher if he doesn't kill people since that's his reason for existing, of course since that would get the cartoons rated NC-17...:(

For those who might like to do DCA style marvel heros, there is a flash software that makes a good aproximation:

It could be pulled off, It's just that he would be killing everyone off screen or... more creatively.

Originaly in the comics he used "mercy bullets" (knocking out the baddies but not killing them). Maybe the cartoon would use it that way and simply keep the "punishing" part by him always appearing on the verge of beating up the vilains after he surrendered or worst.

They could also show as less then heroic by other's standard by being a black and white kind of guy and going after those who have commited even minor crime (spidey having to stop him from punching up a pickpocket)
