A Map Thread

It's not in fancy font and "this is their capital of XXXX" blah blah blah thing. Honestly- I can draw better but it's with a pen and paper not electronic.

Hello. I just stumbled upon this site and thought I'd post a map I made. You can find some background at http://headwideopen.blogspot.com/2004/11/different-better-world.html. As you can probably tell, I did this for entertainment rather than plausibility. I know a Union of Tartar Socialist Khanates is unlikely, but what the hell! I also liked the irony of having China conquered by a Holy Tibetan Empire (with the royal family dispersing themselves to Taiwan) and Spain conquered by Aztecs; plus the Incas in a dispute with the Alexandrian Commonwealth over the Perdiccas (Falkland) Isles. Aztec Indo-China is just me being on crack.

An earlier and more severe Black Plague weakened Europe and the midEast while leaving central Asia relatively unscathed. Eventually I'll do a complete TL.

The area was once the personal dominion of the King-Emperor of Britannia, and the name stuck.

I really don't see how the Jurchen Chin would be driven all the way to the South of China while their erstwhile rivals the Khitai (who were driven by the Chin/ Jin to what is modern day Xinjiang to become the Qara Khitai) somehow managed not only to regain their former dominions but also drove all the way into the Chin Empire in North China, but I suppose everything can happen with a POD as early as that (Sulthante of Dehli, Nanchao... they sure are long living states...).

And Japan once more becomes a world power in Alt Hist. What a surprise that is.

Here is the map from my unfinished sequel to the Anglo-Saxon World that Norman, G.Bone and I worked on last year.

Some of the areas aren't in the key:
The Western coast of S. America is the Incan Empire
The Diaspora states are countries under the cultural influence of the Indian Confederacy
The lime green area is the dar-Al-Islam
The pink bits in Venezuela, Central America and the Carribbean are the Union of New Wales
The Black region of Mexico is the Mixtecan Republic, a hybrid between Anglo-Saxon and local native culture.
The Beige interior of N. America denotes various native American states
Japan, Taiwan and the Phillippines comprise the Nipponese Empire

What in the world is that monster bestriding Asia? The legend says 'CFS', but I have no clue what that might be.

There's nothing terribly ironic about that. Tibet sacked all the way to Changan, the then Chinese capital, as later as the eigth century.

And clearly the legacy of socialism lives on! Za Rodinu!

Another map from ME. The POD is that Pancho Villa never got stiffed when he wanted land from some rich dude and went on to succed the other president that almost made Mexico a First World Nation. OAS means Org. of Amer. States BTW.

Pancho Villa isn't remotely early enough to make Mexico capable of wreting California from the USA...

And what the hell happened to China?

and Brazil has an African colony!

That's not too bad, I imagine the Portugese royal family fled to Brazil and transferred to the EoB some Portugese colonies.

And there's that United Kingdom-United Provinces thingy.

And there's a Swedish Empire. Somebody must have been playing Paradox games.

Are you referring to my Kirghiz map(s)? If so, that is not the Delhi Sultanate; it is a theocratic Hindu state (Hind). Islam and Christianity are not nearly as widespread in that TL as in OTL; Hinduism & Buddhism are the major religions.
That is an early map and it isn't accurate now. There's a better map showing just Asia for this TL a few posts back...

But I'm not really sure which one you're referring to. Can you give me a post #?

Post # 2, where the legend said 'Purple: Delhi Sultanate'.

And what the hell happened to China?

A) It wasn't Villa per say but Mexico getting it's act together and the government in Mexico being less corrupted/reformed. This lead to Mexico being a first world nation and things reversing themselves in OTL. Thus, all the former lands that we in OTL have, broke away due to the U.S. being destitute and poor.

B) In the OAS TL, the U.S. got involved in China in part due to them being screwed over in Latin America. Thus, China becomes more "American" influenced and developing into a Mecca of sorts in order to get away from Mexico and the whole economic destitution that is the U.s.

-More details on this can be seen in "Yet another ME Tale" in the Writer's Forum.

Commonwealth of Federated States, i.e. "Communist China with a very big stick and less organized"

This is a map from a TL where the Holy Roman Empire IS an empire, not just a collection of states. The Pope has no secular authority whatsoever.
Thanks to EdT for the map template.

Diamond,

How exactly do you make all these cool maps? I'd like to make a map for my "Great North African Crusade" TL and I'd like to use the template you used for this one. How might I go about creating the map and posting it to the thread?

Alright, I'll go looky. It sounds deliciously implausible.

Very big stick, indeed... So they are that reality's equivalent of the Soviet Union? The fact that Japan is keeping Taiwan must mean that there's a sort of naval balance against the CFS, perhaps an alliance between India and Japan? But then there's also the CFS's East African possessions, though I suspect properly managed they can at least fend for themselves.
