That's a cool map, Munro. I've had that book sitting in my 'to be read' stack for about 8 months; maybe I'll actually have to read it now. ;)

After looking around the 'Net for some good maps, I stumbled on this one (I think it's the one Diamond last used) and did some quick editing, just for practice.

Nice map. How the heck did you get the shading down? What program did you use?

Thanks. As for the program, I used something called MGI Photosuite; it's what I use for all my maps. And what shading are you talking about, exactly?

I think that's just a consequence of converting to GIF (or whatever) format: in the bitmap that'll be a single colour rather than several shadings.

Oh, that. Yeah, you're right. It's just what happens when a bitmap is made into a .gif. In this instance, though, I wanted it to look like that.

I've got a map of Europe coming up that's done in a similar style.

Here's my latest map; it shows the situation in Europe in 1950 in my Central Powers USA timeline- a few years after the end of the Second World War.

Anyone like it? Should I continue in this style?

Some hints have been dropped that the Lords of the Tiers might have made this world as a playground, and forgot about it.

Where were said hints dropped? I think I only read one of the "World of Tiers" series, and that was a while ago.

BTW, it's not "Finnish Japan", it's Finnish Sariset: the people which OTL inhabit Japan never settled there...

[Farmer's grasp on the history of humanity is rather outdated. For one thing, he seems to think the Bantu peoples (and black people in gerneral) originally came from India. Or perhaps it's just his protagonist who thinks this?]

Thanks for the fulsome praise, everyone! :D

Where are these maps from Tetsu?
Ones with rivers are good, help in determining where borders should be and situating cities very well.

Also why is Sunderland marked out on the Europe one?

The Independent Socialist Republic of Sunderland?

Flag: vertical red and white stripes?

The Geordies are going to be very jealous of the dorty greet Mak'ems...

No they most certainly aren't! And I recommend you don't say anything to that effect to either a Sunderlander or a Geordie's face: it's like confusing Lancashire and Yorkshire or something!

...yes we are.
Geordie= anyone from the coal mining areas of NE England. Sunderland is more geordie then Newcastle as its traditional Co.Durham.
Mackem is just a subset of geordie.

Okay then, I stand corrected.

(Although there are some people on this board, and naming no names, who would continue to argue that you are wrong about your own history/culture/politics ;) ).
