Presenting... the L O N G States of America:

l_o_n_g_states_of_america_by_upvoteanthology-dbtevlc.png

This is so many layers of garbage, it's beautiful.

It's a low-effort edit of a base map, with no changes except the labels
It labels some states but only a few
One of the labels, and only one, is wrong
Some of them are italicized and some aren't!

That last one is a magnificent touch. This is a work of shitpost art. I only have one improvement to make:

it took me a solid 10 minutes to find what you changed

Ever thought the Delmarva Peninsula and surrounding region was just not confusing enough?

Well now there is!

  • The State of New Sweden. Traditionally rural and undeveloped but has seen the expansion of suburbs from Philadelphia in the last half-century. Is no longer majority Swedish, owing to the ethnic cleansing carried out by General MacArthur.
  • The idea of parting with the Western Reserve wasn't something Connecticut liked, and that territory was retained until the 1820s when it was deemed to hard to administer. Among the states created out of it was Wyoming.
  • The District of Columbia remains about the same, though it retained its territory on the western side of the Potomac (except for Alexandria, where the secession campaign in 1971-3 had national coverage and was ultimately successful). However, Enoch Johnson, the first President born in the Jersies ordered the construction of a summer capital in his home city of Atlantic City. The move was highly controversial and Johnson-aligned construction companies received undue payment. The creation of the District of Franklin was one of the causes for the Second Civil War of the 1940s.
  • The state of New Jersey doesn't exist. In its place are East Jersey and West Jersey. East Jersey is cosmopolitan and relatively developed (they recently elected the first non-white homosexual governor in the Union). West Jersey, not so much. Incredibly poor and suffering from the loss of industry to the Third World, West Jersey has been voted "Shittiest State in the Union" by Poor Richard's Daily.
  • 1988: The Crime Rate in the United States Rises Four Hundred Percent. The once great city of New York becomes the one maximum security prison for the entire country. A 50 foot containment wall is erected along the East Jersey shoreline, across the Harlem River, and down along the Brooklyn shoreline. It completely surrounds Manhattan Island. Yeah, you get the idea. Rumor has it that the last survivors of MacArthur's dreaded IV Corps remain alive in the city and rule over a jumble of narcofiefdoms. The loss of Manhattan was a crushing blow to the New York spirit. With access from Albany to the far reaches of Long Island more difficult and anger at the creation of a city-sized prison on their border, Long Island successfully voted to secede from New York and entered the union in March 1989. Of course, Staten Island was an issue. They had little interest in remaining part of New York, so decided to jump onboard the Long Island train. So was born the state of Long Island and Staten Island (referred to as Long Island by all but half a million sore inhabitants of a certain landmass).
  • At the end of the Civil War, the power of Gullah Confederacy was culled. To do so, many Gullahs were relocated to make way for settlers to assimilate them. The primary dumping ground were the islands of Chincoteague and Assateague. So began Gullahland North (Officially the Resettlement District of Chincoteague and Assateague). The District functions somewhat like a reservation, but with more autonomy, and it is not exactly part of Maryland. Gullahland North currently is prosperous, and the major settlement of Ocean City is a tourist destination that brings lots of money into the district. To compensate Maryland for giving away the land that would become Gullahland North, Maryland was given parts of what might have been West Virginia, including Harpers Ferry. Maryland also has Northampton County, Virginia. Why? We're not exactly certain, but it has something to do with the boundaries set in the charters establishing the Maryland and Virginia colonies. This has the effect of making Virginia's Eastern Shore bordered by Maryland on both the north and the south.
  • Don't forget about Delaware and Connecticut, which are about the same as OTL.
