Ok to this is my first flurry into alternate history writing, have always enjoyed fiction writing and such but this is my first time posting it online for all to see and criticise, so be gentle
This shall be written in a similar style to George R.R Martin's Game of Thrones to make it slightly more interesting to write and i hope read, also i cannot promise that everything i do would be 100% historically accurate as im Scottish and well i don't know this part of history half as well as others but here goes.
Let me know what you think, good idea, bad idea, just stop now kinda things

Point of Divergence: July 1787, the Philadelphia Convention. The Thirteen States have failed to agree to a new United States constitution, and the Southern States have left one by one declaring themselves Independent Republics following the rejections of the Virginia and Pinckney Plans.
The Northern States have remained until September but all failing to agree on either the New Jersey or the Hamilton Plans they left each claiming to be a new Republic. The Thirteen States, combined in common goals and beliefs have now become the Thirteen Republics divided yet again by old quarrels.

The Republic of Georgia
Governor George Mathews was in Atlanta when the news had reached him, the talks were over they would be no Grand Republic, after years of fighting the British this is where they were now. A divided people, thirteen new nations about to quarrel over land, power, money and people, he could see it coming.
But it wasn't just the other states, no republics he needed to remember that, we were thirteen states of one great nation any more that was a dream nothing more than a dream, he was no the leader of a National Republic of Georgia and he needed to remember that. This was a new game to be played the other republics had to be fear but so did a possible British Invasion and even in the south ans west the Spanish were an extreme power to be feared.
Suddenly the doors blew wide open and in walked the Lord Chief Justice himself, George Walton, the second Governor of Georgia and the powerful judge in the new republic and no doubt he would be furious. Slamming his fist on his desk Walton scream out profanity about the new republic he had, had the Philadelphia Convention Representatives proclaim.
"Are you stark raving mad or have you just let your ego sky rocket" Walton boomed. "We are American's first and Georgians second or have you forgotten that bloody idea sitting behind that desk of yours George." He composed himself and sat down on his chair, he was Governor of Georgia, a new Republic, its leader and he must act like it. "Please Lord Justice, sit down and let us talk about this."
"You think I want to talk, you think I want to discuss this! No I want you to ride to the bloody Carolina's and Virginia and drag their asses back to Philadelphia so we can get a constitution and not a preamble to war you fool"
"George, I didn't want this but its happened, we couldn't get the north to agree to anything, the Carolina's came to Philadelphia with their Declarations of Independence in hand and South Carolina had their representatives sign a new independent Constitution right there and then. This isn't something we can wheel back the clock with words, its done we're Republics now and you'd better get use to it."
The Chief Justice looked like he was about to explode but he knew he had to stay strong, the Chief Justice needed to blow of his steam, he needed some where and someone private to explode at and he just needed to take it. Like it or not George Walton was a Georgian War hero and the most power justice in the Republic, to Governor in these troubling times he needed him and that was the bottom line of it.
It took at least two hours, but it felt like years before the Chief Justice was calmed down and took his leave but this was just the beginning. The public for now would either be happy, subdued or blind to the implications of this new Republic but soon George would need to be ready for protest and demands and if the Government was not ready there would be plenty vultures ready to pick at the carcass that would be left behind by the mob.
The doors swung open again and finally it was a friendly face, John Milton Georgia's Secretary of State and the man that had proclaimed Georgia as an Independent state in Pennsylvania, George knew he needed the support of Milton if he was to keep the Georgian Government running, but Milton was a Southern by heart born in North Carolina and supporter of the Virginia plan who knows what he'd want. Milton placed down a map of Thirteen Republics and stuck his knife in the lands to the west of Georgia.
"That's where we have to go now" he proclaimed with glee. "We are a new Republic and we need to show we are strong, let me order the army to prepare to make this part of the land ours, proclaim it part of the great Republic of Georgia and we can begin to settle it, you've want to do it for years George this is our chance."
He knew the game they were about to play, this was going to be the price for Walton's support and the guarantee of political stability, an expansionist foreign policy. The debate went on for hours but of course he eventually accepted Walton's point of view, he had to fight on so many fronts now, the Spanish, the British, the other republics and his own people, he didn't sign up for his was all he could think as he put ink to his name of the Declaration of Expansion.
