A Lasting Grand Colombia

Much of my family was born in Colombia (including my parents) and was wondering what it would take to keep a Grand Colombia (Colombia, Panama, Ecuador and Venezuela) together?

An idea of mine was a surviving Simon Bolivar, despite his dictatorial tendencies.

Even a surviving Bolivar would not be enough, mi amigo. Venezuela was working on a different pattern in terms of governance and in the cases of both Venezuela and Ecuador, it was too far from the capital for them to handle with regards to regional and local issues.

A surviving Gran Colombia(which would've been awesome) would have needed a less dictatorial Bolivar, a more organized and less corrupt Venezuela, more departments, a common enemy(maybe Britain, Peru or Brazil?), a more unifying force than a hatred of Royalists and it would probably have to be much more of a loose Confederation. If you can accomplish that, Gran Colombia might just survive.
