A Jewish President Of The United States Changes The World How?

I'm no expert on US presidential politics, believing that Joe Lieberman was the closest to ever becomming president, so I'm in need of further enlightenment on this one for sure.
Was there ever a realistic possibility of this happening?
How would it change the USA and the world?
Catholicism certainly counted against Al Smith in his endeavour and would have hindered JFK to an extent, but did not affect Geraldine Ferraro as VP candidate or the current VP or even J F Kerry.
No doubt, if proven and I of course belief it to be nonsense, a Muslim Obama might have consequences for him at any rate unfortunately!
Also, I have always presumed a strong Zionist orientation wrt Jewish American Politicians, what if our prospective Jewish president was not a Zionist.
There has been a strong Jewish influence on UK politics over the years and in my view very welcome, but they never seem to wear Judaism or even Zionism on their sleeves!
BTW it's often said in Europe that no Atheist or gun control supporter can ever become POTUS!

I liked someone's suggestion of Groucho Marx as the first Jewish President. Imagine Groucho as president during WW-2. Not realistic, though he might be able to turn anti-semetic attacks during the campaign into votes for himself.

As for an atheist or gun-control supporter being POTUS, wasn't it recently common knowledge in Europe that POTUS would always be an old white man?

I for one think Lieberman would have made a competent, if not very good, president. Apart from a few fringe types, I don't think being Jewish would be a hindrance to gaining the Oval Office: you may recall that in 2000, Lieberman's faith was pretty much an "oh, by the way..." item, barely worth mentioning.

Thus, within the US and within the circle of the western powers, I can't see it being an issue or cause of any sizable change. It's outside that circle that gives me pause. Any Muslim extremist group would take election of a Jewish president as prime evidence that the US is against them, and would probably act accordingly. That's where the ripple effects, including both international and domestic security, start.

The odds of having a Jewish US President are quite good so long as his name is not Joe Lieberman. He has been a thorn in the side of the Democratic party for a very long time and the Republicans do not trust him either.

As for running for President, your hypothetical candidate would first have to win the early primaries and caucuses, traditionally held in Iowa and New Hampshire.............

Not that I know of. Most Europeans, that is politically aware Europeans, over here avoid absolutes like "always". They much rather use expressions like "highly unlikely in the current political environment" or "implausible to occur in the near future".

As for the effects a Jewish POTUS? Depends on the decade, I suppose. The forties? Might change the fate of Central Europe rather drastically. Today? What LaSalle said.

Well, he's too hawkish to be nominated now. But supposing Gore/Lieberman had a relatively successful eight years in the White House, I suppose it's easy enough to imagine Vice President Lieberman receiving the nomination. Even that might be a bit of a challenge, and I think Lieberman would probably lose due to the probable economic climate. I'm not sure how to actually have Vice President Lieberman become President, aside from the obvious.
