I've read a bit about the French demographic crisis, and I was wondering what might have happened in another country.

Let's say through accident or some sinister foresight, Austria passes similar inheritance laws at the same time as France. Only a loophole exempts German Austrians and the demographic crisis only hits the Hungarians and Slavs.

How does that change the history of Austria? Will the Hungarians still need to be compromised with? And can the Empire hold after a loss in the First World War? Will we see a situation similar to Germany, where the Hapsburgs are thrown out, but the country remains united anyways?
