A Humble Nintendo: What if Donkey Kong Failed?

This is getting interesting so far, but it’s gonna be weird that with the OG Donkey Kong game not being a success, any Donkey Kong game (excluding the Donkey Kong Country series) may have been butterflied away as a result.

Long Since Forgotten Rivals
The FTC had no real plans to keep Nintendo and Sega warring with each other like they had hoped. Nintendo would pretend to get the upper hand on Sega with a video game and then Sega would pretend to as well. Federal Trade Communion was not happy with the state at which the video game industry was headed and thus a new challenger was encouraged to enter the ring to fight off against Nintendo and Sega. The competitor came as no surprise when all was said and done.

Tencent had returned and was taking a crack at making a console. With the help of S.N.K. backing them there was no telling what would get accomplished by the Chinese giant.

One big change took place that shook both Nintendo and Sega, having to give up some of their studios. Due to not following FTC protocol, Nintendo and Sega were forced to sell off some of their businesses and Tencent got top pickings. It took SqaureSoft from Nintendo and Visual Concepts from Sega. With the likes of those companies behind it Tencent could release a competent console that gamers would fawn over.

The Tencent TGP Box would use specifications like those from OTL XBox 360 with upgradeable technology that came from online downloads.

Tencent had just taken the star key players from both Nintendo and Sega and who knew what the future would consist of next.

Wow..........

Was the Tencent TGP Box a real plan?

Chinese Juggernaut in Video Games
Tencent had entered the console market and with a bang it did. Most gamers that wanted hardcore gaming experiences like no other went towards Tencen'ts TGP Box. It had access to the latest games and HD graphics. With SquareSoft on board that included titles such as Final Fantasy, Secret of Mana, Kingdom Hearts. Visual Concepts would make wrestling and sports games which would counteract Sega's plans of making the sport titles it wanted for its console.

There was nothing that Nintendo and Sega could do to stop this as the move was FTC approved. Tencent also started its take over by investing in Take Two Interactive. Though this move would have been stopped earlier the FTC allowed Tencent to make one more major investment to compete against Nintendo and Sega. Money Hatting developers were also off the table for all consoles as that would increase demand for one console over the other, something that the FTC wanted to stop.

As for Sony's properties, they would be focusing on supporting Tencent as to get revenge on both Nintendo and Sega whereas Microsoft would be fighting Valve for market share in the Personal Computer gaming sector.

Things were looking up for Tencent and it looked like nothing could be done to stop this new player from getting all the marbles.

Next Time: We follow Nintendo and Sega and their plans to stop Tencent before it gets too huge.

Stopping the Chinese Juggernaut
Thanks to the FTC no developer could be money hatted nor could exclusive deals be made with companies instead of putting games on all consoles that were not first party; however, there was one plan that could work for both Nintendo and Sega.

The FTC had warned against money hatting games, but it never said that games shared between developers were not allowed. So both Nintendo and Sega created new games that would be shared between both of their game consoles and had cross platform play between the two.

The game in question was a fighting game made by Arika, called Fighting Ex Layer:

gameplay provided by Chaos Productions Inc

Nintendo Wii version would have cel shaded graphics to be ale to run the game, but the Sega Nitro would be able to run the game with full graphics. This title was able to be kept from Tencent's video game console due to the game being funded by both Nintendo and Sega to Arika.

This move may not have seemed like much but it prevented a rivalry between Nintendo and Sega console sales.

Next Time: We see what Tencent does in retaliation having games kept against it.

Tencent's Retaliation
Tencent couldn't be go directly towards the FTC to whine about what Nintendo and Sega were doing as they were in their rights to do so and were breaking no laws. Instead, Tencent would hit both companies where it hurt, their bottom line. It would accomplish this with games and the ability to have their console access the Steam Store.
Valve was no major competitor in the scheme of the video game console business, but its properties were popular enough to get gamers from around the world playing its games. If they could bring Valve on board then all of the third party game companies would give their console the best version of each game.

Besides that Tencent would have Riot Games make home console versions of League of Legends. Not only that but big titles like Kingdom Hearts, Secret of Mana, Final Fantasy, Metal Slug, King of Fighters were big contenders for Tencent in the South American region something that Nintendo and Sega had not considered when combating the Chinese Giant.

Butterfly Effects: Tencent has gotten the help of Valve to bring Steam to its console and is striking big in South America due to S.N.K.

Next Time: We have Nintendo and Sega share resources to create something not done before and a move that Tencent might not be prepared for.

Nice.

Sneaky Tactics
Nintendo and Sega could not compromise Tencent's creation of video games, but they could come up with another plan. The two would plan to create a studio that was compromised of both of their employees to ensure new game type and ideas were being made. It would appear to function as an independent developer but only choose to release games for both consoles, avoiding Tencent. How would Nintendo and Sega bypass this decision? By simply basing the developer in Taiwan so Tencent could not acknowledge that it exists nor do business with the game developer.

The Game developer would be named Nimbus studios and would consist of developers from Nintendo's Entertainment Planning and Development Group and members of Sega's Sonic Team.

Nimbus studios would be used to develop video games not familiar with the Big N or the Studio that houses the Blue Blur.

Time would tell if Nintendo and Sega would be successful warding off Tencent.

Butterfly Effects: A mish mash studio of Nimbus is created to serve the interests of Nintendo and Sega.

Next Time: We discover what Sony and Microsoft have been up to during this time.

They've got a point, though. If we can't have Nintendo and Sega be partners anymore, at least create a studio that benefits the both of them. Genius business move.

Sony and Microsoft
Despite being run out of the console space by Nintendo and Sega things were not all that bad. Sony and Microsoft were able to make tons of money during their third party sales like Steam and online services. In fact, once Sony and Microsoft had learned about Tencent releasing a console to fight off Nintendo and Sega they leapt at the chance to create a new studio that would take things by storm for all companies involved. Sony would take some developers from their Naughty Dog studio and Microsoft from their Bungie studios to make a new game that no one would see coming. The new studio would be called Sunburst studios.

Sony and Microsoft might not have been the best of partners like Nintendo and Sega were but they had their advantages over Nintendo and Sega. They might not have been more game savvy but they were great at making game titles that was for more mature audiences.

The first title from their acclaimed studio would be The Last of Us with a multiplayer mode that mimicked those of first person shooters at the time. Unlike IOTL, the multiplayer mode in The Last of Us had team death matches, capture the flag modes, and tower defense mode. The Bungie side of things would bring a mode with futuristic weapons that played in an extra mode of The Last of Us.

Nintendo and Sega were not the only game companies to bring a merger together to fight off competition.

Butterfly Effects: Sunburst studios is made and consists of key staff from Naughty Dog and Bungie to make a game truly remarkable that stands above the rest.

Next Time: We see what Tencent plans to do with this new found information.
