A House to Big to "Chew"

Well, the encouragement is greatly appreciated. Right now I have two other TLs going already, so I don't know if I want to restart the research needed to do this the justice it deserves.

I have noticed that I never brought the War of the Empires to its conclusion. We know how the fighting in the Caribbean, North America and India ends, but what about Europe, Africa and elsewhere? Maybe I'll take the time to figure that out in the next few days.

Feb. 4, 1778: France signs secret treaty with Austria.

Feb. 6, 1778: France recognizes US independence. Signs alliance with US.

March 3, 1778: Britain declares war on France.

March 11, 1778: France and Spain sign secret agreement will effectively screw the US at the peace table.

March 29, 1778: Spain declares war on Britain; immediately assault Gibraltar.

April 18, 1778: Spain declares war on Portugal. Gibraltar continues to hold.

July 20, 1778: Prussia invades Austria after a dispute over Bavarian succession.

August 1, 1778: France declares war on Prussia.

August 11, 1778: French invade Austrian Netherlands.

August 22, 1778: British capture the city of New Orleans; rename it New Dorset.

September 6, 1778: Lord Carlisle, largely on his own authority, announces that Britain recognizes American independence.

September 7, 1778: British capture Santiago, Cuba.

September 11, 1778: Netherlands declare war on France.

September 14, 1778: Russia declares war on Prussia

November 17, 1778: King George III finally gives in and agrees to American independence. All British troops are to be removed from the Thirteen Colonies. Treaty of London signed thus ending the American War for Independence.

November 28, 1778: Battle of Ushant Island ends any chance of an invasion of England.

June 12, 1780: British defeat Spanish fleet at the Battle of Balabac Bay. Manila is captured some time later.

March 1786: Treaty of Lisbon finally ends the conflict between France and Britain. This may have brought the entire War of the Empires to an end. [Wow, that's a longer war than I remember it being. I'm guessing that much of the fighting had ceased a while before that but negotiations took a long time.]

Unknown: Treaty of 1786 between Britain and the United States; Britain gains Bahamas and East Florida for western Canada.

June 1, 1787: Carolina and Georgia declare war on the United States.

Early November 1788: Spain declares war on the United States.

August 7, 1789: Treaty of Baltimore ends the Southern Colonies War. The slave states of Carolina and Georgia are hemmed in east of the Appalachians.

---Here is a short TL recapping most major international events. The question is...can Britain (with Hannover), the Netherlands, Portugal (known to have been over run at some point but at least partially liberated as the Treaty of Lisbon is signed there) and Prussia defeat France, Spain, Austria and Russia? There is of course the sideshow in North America but that ends fairly quickly and the US soon becomes more of an asset to the UK (lumber and raw materials). Also, what minor powers will get sucked in (out side of the non-European colonial realm)? I'd imagine Saxony, Bavaria, Hesse and other German states will become battle grounds. What about the Italian states? Would Sweden be willing to jump in...and on who's side?

Any help would be nice. Also, if anyone who likes to make maps cares to do a map of North America post-Spanish-American War; it would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you everyone.

Benjamin

March 4, 1792: Second Treaty of London ends Spanish-American War. US gains huge tracts of land.

A quick look gives me the impression that it would be incredibly easy to get both the Ottomans and Swedes involved in the war. They both went to war against Russia very near the years that the War of the Empires occurs; Second Russo-Turkish War (1787-92) and the Russo-Swedish War (1788-90). I'm betting that it wouldn't take much prodding, i.e. promise of financial support from Britain, to get them to fight Russia a bit early.

I'll post more thoughts as they come to me, and if time allows convert them to a TL.
