In 1914, it is German East Africa that is hotly against war.

They have their plate full and will do so ten years after this Great War, which to them, has already happened.

It is personified by the Governer of the said colony, a certain Lettow von Vorbeck, who points out what happened in Madagaskar. The native monarchs there are grateful for what the Schutztruppe have done for them. This a Federation of sorts. Lettow von Vorbeck states emphatically that for them, war is bad.

But South Africa is against this notion. The Boers have been cleansed. Well - to be adequet - they have been given their homeland. They are a reservation nation, to borrow the term from the United States.

Never mind the fact that the Boers have been "borrowed" by Sudwestafrika-Angola to help out on the Kongo Frei Staat. The fact of a reverse colonial policy is not exactly winning out the natives, even though the said colony is more cosmopolitan than South Pariee, as the Yanks put it. It's comparing oranges and apples. You can't exactly hope for the same thing in all three colonies, even though they are sovereign nations but in name now, with their own embassies (well - the exception of German East Afrika) in different countries, blah blah blah.

Italy had it's revolution. They people are crying out that Germany has forgotten them. That's rubbish. Let us ignore that for more juicy areas...

So South Africa, spelled with a c, is leaning on German East Africa for territorial gains...

So how does one make their meaning known from German to Portuguese?

On to more peaceful things...

The exact relatin that the colonies have with Europe is thin; although they are recognized as a part of Germany, they really aren't.

So when the Revolution of '15 breaks out in Italy, there is a different sort of reaction composed by the three states.

Kamerun-Togoland responds by increasing it's naval might through submarines. Their military situation is mostly of defense...which is curious considering that the French in Exile haven't done much execept bombard the usual areas. The Kapitans of the U-Boats report significantly less traffic than they usually do. There is a telegram sent to the Motherland but, again, that is countered by a growth of forces to the North, so that's in the hole.

German East Africa is threatened, frankly, by the growth of South Africa, who hunger after land. Several diplomatic messages were canned. All three states do agree on the principle of defense. As of this year, there are daily meetings in the three states on the situation that would come about in this War. The scientists don't actually agree on the success of the metal artillery wagon but the principle is key.

Sudwestafrika-Angola is also threatened, but not as so weak as her eastern brethern. Lately they have been pushing the Congo Free State to be more on their own, even though they do hold the western portion under their "guidance". They can hold their own.

So about this War....

Wilhelm Bergerson looks at all the estimates in the papers issued in the early morning. The result can be predicted. There doesn't seem to be any effort in stopping what would come anyway.

The War breaks out in Italy as one faction of happy socialists are outwitted by unhappy conservatives, whom are silently supported by France in Exile. There are different points in Italy that each party holds. In a sense, it could be classified as the Italian Civil War, but then again, given Italy's long history of division and petty conflicts, there is no real point to it being a "civil war" on the account of it being divided since...God Knows When.

As for the Balkans, they are a sorrid mess. The Sublime Porte is not to the point that Germany currently is. The only trouble is it's European possessions, in which a peace is maintained, even though it is clear that Russia is manipulating them all for their own devices. Then there are the people in the Arabian Penninsula that are secretly being "helped" by the British...

The first stages of the war occurs in South Africa, where the snap happy authorities declare that the Germans aren't doing a good job in their perspective colonies, and invade without proper authority. They manage to gain success in German East Africa for all the apparent reasons. In the West, however, this is stalled through a magnificent retreat into the heartland, and Napoleon's defeat is replicated under the African sun.

In other, more positive news, Mexico is finally set free after so many years of war. The Summit of the Americas have proven their might. More miscellaneous and soul-less details to follow, there is a notion of a continental currency floating about, even though it is apparent that the Germans are the source of their success.

The Siamese Empire is doing well.

Wilhelm H. Bergerson throws the paper off his desk.

He walks towards the grammophone. He puts the cylinder in. It's odd that they should be this shape. There's a push for a more disk shape for the recordings. He smiles at the memory of when he was given the grammophone.

The sound is scratchy. It's this new form of jazz - a word that he can't quite put his finger on. It's not German but Afrikan. There are the trumpets, the march, and just really welcome in this time of war. This artist - Bolded King - did go about on how a new form of art was unfolding in Wilhelm's Bay.

Wilhelm H. Bergerson takes the cylinder out. He puts another in. This time, it is apt to his mood. He can't quite explain why he's attracted to Wagner - what was the phrase - Sounds of the Lost Empire? - just that it feels right.

A company of militia marches past his window.
