A German-British Empire ?

Hi, I am Glegg. You may have met me in other wacky ideas like "A Celtic soviet union ?" or "The biggest Confederacy ever".
I'm here today to ask something that I've been thinking about for a while... I remember seeing an interesting map on the thread a few months agos : the main interest was an union between the German Empire (with OTL 1870 geography) and the United Kingdom (with 1914 geography, including Ireland and all its colonial possessions). Some kind of a "Germanic Union".

I wondered if something like that was plausible in the past... I mean, could those two countries unite for a long time ? If this union was possible before or during the 19th century, that would be awesome to me, with a lot of interesting changings during modern history. And I'm not even talking about colonial empires and everything...
If it is possible, what kind of government would that be ? A double monarchy like in the Austrian-Hungarian empire ?

I am waiting for your suggestions or opinions. I apologizes for my bad english, once again

P.S : I know that my ideas are sometimes not really plausible... Anyway, I like playing with history as long as dragons and dwarfs are not involved ;)

If Victoria is born male, then Hannover and the UK remain in personal union. If the candidate is suitable, the Frankfurt Parliament could offer him the crown. They might quite like a monarch that is from somewhere with a history of constitutionalism, and also one that won't be spending too much time in Germany, so can't interfere too much. It's a bit of a long shot, but probably the best you can do.

The only other option is that after Princess Victoria (Queen Victoria's eldest daughter) marries Prince Frederick of Prussia and has a child (possibly OTLs Wilhelm II, possibly not) some sort of freak accident kills off at the very least all of Victoria's male children. This is very unlikely though.
