A fleet to Flanders

King Athelstan of England reigned 934 to 939.
In 939 he dispatched a fleet to Flanders to back his nephew, Louis of France.
Suppose King Athelstan does not dispatch a fleet to Flanders. What happens then?

It would change little. The fleet itself was more of an intimidating pressure (even if it could have not been considered such) than a real military force and I don't see its absence accelerating Louis' defeat.

Hugues of Neustria may maintain the relations he had with Athelstan, but the quick death of the latter wouldn't change many things, critically with Edmund continuing the pro-Carolingian policy of his predecessor (at least continuing as much he was able to with the troubles he had at hand).
