A feel good DBWI: The Final season of Firefly!

OOC: It was 5 originally, but then Bondoc mentioned 7, so...

OOC: I also went with five for my post about how long it took to watch the series nonstop. (I said I got onboard in Season 4, watching the earlier seasons in a 36 hour marathon right after buying them. 36 hours is approximently 4 seasons at 45 minutes per episode, which is about right once you take out commercials) That's two earlier posts he contradicts by mentioning a 7th, so just go with five.

OOC: ALL RIGHT, GOD! :p

I just have to say, I called it that Book wasn't really a shepherd from moment in the pilot episode that he goes suddenly kung fu on the Fed. Then I spend the first two seasons waiting to be proven right, finally admitted I was wrong, and then the man turns out to be half the plot of season four.

Whedonnnnnnn!!!

I don't know about the rest, but my favorite character has to be the Operative, you know, when he replaced the Hands of Blue as the main bad guys (and when he gutted them with his sword with the classic "You've outlived your usefullness/failed me" lines)

He was the best part about season 3.

(OOC: There is of course, no movie, but the Operative is too awesome to not have)
Indeed, in the history of the sci-fi villains, the Operator ranks as number 1.

"I'm making a better world, all of them; better worlds"

My favourite was the two parter ("Digging up the Past" and "Best Left Buried") in season 5 where we discover the history of Shepherd Book.

It starts with a farmer ploughing a field and finding a box of medals, there a flashes to the Battle of Serenity, mystery men killing anyone who come in contact with the medals. Mal and Shepherd share danger and secrets as they a chased through an abandoned miltary base in Serenity Valley. In the final scene Book askes if he is still welcome on board, Mal brings a cliff down on on the complex with the line "some things are best left buried".

I liked all the subtle Buffyverse references that dotted the series, for instance, a number of the clients of the Wolfram & Hart law firm from Angel were mentioned to be active corporations within the Alliance, (OOC: the makers of the old gun from Earth That Was were mentioned as W&H clients, which was great).

What was best though were the continuous background references to a mysterious plague on the planet Stoker, (Stoker!!!), during series three. A lot of them were really blink-and-you'll-miss-'em, like newscasters saying things like, "... symptoms include obsessive haemophagia ...". I still remember how obsessed the fan community got about potential cross-overs. But then, come series four, the references all stopped! Best red herring EVER!
