Hi Guys! Levi here.
As we all know, in the 1860s the south decided they had had enough of the north and decided to form the confederate states. Unfortunately for them, they were pretty much screwed from the start. But what if the north made peace with the south, allowing their independence? I'm not saying this is likely, but maybe with a different president it could happen. Let's say Lincoln is never elected, but the South still secedes later for other reasons. This U.S. government goes to war, but is not as successful as Lincoln's administration is in our timeline. Eventually the north is discussing having peace talks with the south. The Treaty of Richmond states that the U.S. recognizes the C.S.A.'s independence, but there is still open trade between the two americas.
So, the question is: What would this world be like? Would the C.S. and U.S. be in such a good relationship forever? Would other parts of the U.S. split away too, seeing that secession is an option proven to work? Will the world ever be the same again?
Note: This thread is sort of a resurrection of a former thread of mine, which was kind of a mess. Everyone was arguing that the C.S.A. could never win in the first place. And the whole thing ended up being a "how the south could have won" kind of thing. Eventually I just lost interest and abandoned the thing. But now that I have a solid way the C.S.A. exists, hopefully that won't happen again. And if you really think that I'm creating just another sealion, you don't have to participate.
Anyway, on with the show!
