OK, so over in the after 1900 forum, we recently had
this thread, and that got me to thinking, and...
So, with a POD no sooner than the end of the ACW, have the US of A offer, instead of "40 acres and a mule", repatriation for former freed slaves, with an eye to Empire, and the building a "United States of Africa".
Is this time frame to late? Is all of Africa already divided up between European Empires, or could there have been a time when the former slaves might have, with full backing of the US, been able to conquer large sections of Africa, and form a Non-European controlled, well armed Black ruled nation?
If so, what effects might this have had on:
US/European relations or wars?
USAf (United States of Africa)/European colonies?
How different would African history be, if the USA had armed the former slaves, and shipped them back to Africa to carve out an empire where they would not be ruled by whites?
I just got to thinking about this because of the other thread, but their TL was post 1900, and I think that by then, there was no way freedmen were going to be able to make a nation for themselves in Africa until the end of decolonization.
