I´ve had this idea in my head for a while now and finally had an opportunity to try and throw it out there. Inspired by TLs such as XX Century of Change by Glen and other massive century long threads, I had the thought of doing one from slightly different perspective, sports. There is no single POD and they are all not only limited to a sport or league (ie: an Olympic or World Cup can illustrate a different international situation.) All are welcome to contribute.
Here some early ones I´ve quickly thought of.
1905-08: 1905 had been a bloody year on the gridiron; the Chicago Tribune reported 18 players had been killed and 159 seriously injured that season. Already a national controversy, a series of meetings was held through late 1905 and early 1906 by 19 colleges results in a provisional ban of the sport. Over the next 2 years several conferences were held attempting to alter the rules, however a consensus couldn´t be agreed upon and the ban would grow to more than 60 campuses across the U.S.
October 1915: World Series (4-2) Chicago White Sox (AL) over Philadelphia Phillies (NL)
October 1916: World Series (4-2) Chicago White Sox (AL) over Brooklyn Robins (NL)
October 1918: World Series (4-3) Chicago Cubs (NL) over Washington Senators (AL)
October 1919: World Series (5-3) Chicago White Sox (AL) over Cincinnati Reds (NL)
Need to go for now, more to come. A prize to the person who can spot the PODs so far.
Best Regards,
Mike
