Okay, I realize there are other threads out there that talk about William, Duke of Gloucester (only living son of Queen Anne) surviving. And they’ve given him wives ranging from a sister of Johan Friso of Nassau-Dietz, to marrying Ulrike Eleonora of Sweden or Sophie Dorothea of Hannover.
While Sophie Dorothea would be a good choice – what if a still closer claimant to the British throne could be found? Britain AFAIK does not recognize morganatic marriages, therefore, following the duchesse d’Orléans (Liselotte and her ilk), the next in line would’ve been any of her half-siblings from her father’s marriage to Susanna von Degenfeld. All of the boys were already dead, therefore the eldest claimant in the Palatinate line would be Raugrafin Karoline Friederike von der Pfalz. Except Karoline was already dead. However, unlike her other siblings – besides Liselotte – she had children.
From her marriage to Meinrad von Schomberg, Duke of Schomberg and Leinster she had four children:
Charles Louis, Marquess of Harwich (1683-1713)
Caroline (1686-1710)
Frederica (1688-1751) who succeeded to her father’s titles and passed her claim to the Earl of Holderness, then to the Marquesses of Lothian and then the Dukes of Leeds
Mary (1692-1762)
What if one of the three possible kings of Great Britain (a surviving William, Duke of Gloucester; James III & VIII; or George II) marries one of Schomberg’s daughters? Or each of them could marry one (just for fun: George II to Caroline; James III or Gloucester to Frederica, and whoever’s left to Mary).
