A different President Kennedy?

This is my first time on the board, so I think this is the place to put this. Suppose FDR doesn't run for a second term, and Joe Kennedy takes his place. How do you see his presidency going?

Do you mean a third term in 1940? FDR never wanted Kennedy to succeed him and would do everything to prevent it, like LBJ did to his sons 20 and 28 years later respectively. In OTL he offered him the '44 nomination as a joke, but JPK took it seriously. Tells you something about what a political naif he was. Both JFK and Jimmy Roosevelt said that FDR promised JPK to help his sons postwar, in exchange for 100% loyalty. Roosevelt knew this was near-impossible, he distrusted his ambition, and repeatedly refused him Treasury from 1935 on, he prefered Morgenthau, a competent loyalist, to someone as rabidly ambitious as Joe Kennedy. His presidency would have bad effects on the war unless he let the military run it, and given his personality it's ASB. Also, he was discredited because of his defeatism, FDR knew that he wanted the W.H. In short, it would have negative effects on the war, though the Allies would probably win, and a rollback of the late New Deal postwar. The dynasty will develop as per OTL until 1960.
