A Different Philip for Mary

The Tudors romanticized the meeting of the future Queen Mary I and Philipp of Bavaria by showing them to be closer in age than they were (OTL AFAIR he was about 15yrs older) and her being completely captivated despite his Lutheranism. The marriage never went through due to several reasons, one being the divorce of Anna of Kleve from Henry VIII and thereby the abandonment of a possible alliance with the Lutherans.

Philipp unsuccessfully visited England a further three times, but was unable to see Mary or make headway with his suit, so he returned to Germany and died unmarried.

How might England look if Mary HAD married Philipp?

Really there was little to no chance in hell of this match happening. For one this was but a small event in the life of Mary I of England, barely mentioned in biographies on her, so that to me show's how little support the proposed match had. Second, Mary would NEVER marry a Protestant, especially a Lutheran. She would sooner become a nun then to wed a heretic. Personally I think that this would be the one thing that Mary would never give in to in regards to her father, and Henry knew it. Plus there would no doubt be fear on Henry's part that Mary would be "kidnapped" if she was sent to the continent to marry a heretic. If she fell into the hands of Francis I or Emperor Charles she would be a perfect figurehead to threaten England with. Better to keep her in England. Its a nice idea in theory but like so many things in Tudor England it falls apart when it goes past the idea stage.
