What if, rather then dropping the atomic bomb on Japan, either A) Japan is starved out by bombing runs and a blockade or B) A coup is launched in Japan by Generals who feel the war is lost and want to stop suffering in Japan. I know this seems like a random topic, but during the war, the Japanese were devoted to the cause, and I was wondering in this devotion or fanaticism could survive into the post war world. I believe this belief ended when the Emperor ordered Japan to surrender, if we butterfly this away with either a blockade or Operation Downfall, what does Japan look like? Would their be a long term occupation of Japan, dealing with Japanese terrorists? Or would the Japanese simply stop fighting when they realize that they've been beaten.
