Im thinking of a different Franco Prussian war, where the outcome is more balanced. It's not a decisive Prussian victory and France is not humiliated.
But it's enough of a victory for Prussia to still unite Germany although they do not annexe Alsace Lorraine.
My reasons for this.
A more circumspect Prussia that doesn't become so arrogant in it's certainty of victory over France in a future war. A less confident more prudent Prussia doesn't get into the Naval race with Britain, devoting more money and rescources to it's frontier defences facing France and more to it's army.
Britain feels less threatened by a Germany that avoids building a huge navy and by a Germany that doesn't seem such a certain candidate for dominating the continent.
Germany doesn't alienate Britain by supporting the Boers.
Maybe the entente cordiale is never signed and by 1914 there is more tension between Britain and France than in OTL.
What do France and Prussia do differently in 1870 to leave some sort of stalemate to the war where neither side can claim victory or defeat.
