A different Chinesse civil war

So there were a lot of Chinese warlords during during and before ww2 in china right? And in the end they got beat up and turned into the PRC after ww2.

So what if they all teamed up to fight the KMT though? Like they create a anti Mao AND anti KMT coalition. Anyway this could happen? And would japan stand a better chance in ww2?

Japan would occupy more land, but would face even larger problems trying to hold all of it. Also, I think that at least some of the warlords would form a coalition and dominate everyone else. After the Japanese are kicked out China gets reunified at some point in the 50's and we have a typical dictatorship in that nation. If things are good, there is an Ataturk-like figure, if bad, there could be another civil war and China would stay impovershed for a long time.

They did try that in OTL. Yan Xishan, Feng Yuxiang and Li Zongren, three powerful warlords, formed a coalition against the Nationalists, resulting in the Central Plains War of 1930. While the Nationalists won, the war prevented them from finishing off the Communists, and nearly bankrupted them, making China all the weaker and more tempting for the Japanese to invade. A year later, Manchuria was annexed.
