They'll be easily targetted in a revolution especially since back then voting rights were limited to people with a specific amounts of property.

Still not easily targeted at all. First off, they don't have any of the characteristics of an aristocracy beyond wealth.

I could see a culling of officeholders, but not of the wealthier classes.

It requires a European style aristocracy.
 
It doesn't have to be a vis-a-vis French-style Revolution, but it could still be a mass killing and fearful one. During the Reign of Terror, the French were content to kill pretty much anyone. Hell, they guillotined Robespierre in the end... and then guillotined some more people while they were at it.

I think plantation owners and wealthy business types would work fine for an aristocratic gentry that the Americans would be ready to behead.
