At around this time, the flight had a near midair collision with Delta Air Lines Flight 2315, reportedly missing the plane by only 300 feet, as air traffic controller Dave Bottiglia frantically tried to tell the Delta pilot to take evasive action. Bottiglia was the first person in the control center to realize that Flight 175 was hijacked when he gave directions for a turn. Flight 175 did not respond, it instead accelerated and headed toward Delta Air Lines Flight 2315. The controller commanded the Delta pilot, "Take any evasive action necessary. We have an airplane that we don't know what he's doing. Any action at all."[14][15]

Moments before Flight 175 crashed, it avoided a near collision with Midwest Express Flight 7.[16]
Flight 175 had two near misses that fateful day. So, whatif it ended in a midair collision that day, and thus never impacted WTC ?

Question 1

Will the intact tower resist collapse of its sibling ? we have some indication with WTC 7 - it collapsed... what do you think ?

Question 2

A lesser psychological shock ?

Impact 2 was evidently the most photographied, since every camera was filming the other tower. There's some horrifying photos of the aircraft only seconds from impact.

Dare I say that, in my opinion, people should handle better a midair collision than an airliner deliberately crashing into a building in view of the wolrd camera.

What do you think ?

I wounder if the tower that was hit would crumble like it did. OTL it collapsed 30 mins after the second tower that was hit collapsed and maybe the first collapse shook the first tower enough to collapse it.

Without flight 175 crashing into WTC, what happens to United 93?

I think it would definitely be less of a psychological shock. But it depends on whether one of them collapses, both of them collapse, or neither collapse.

If the south tower is still standing, the structural damage caused by the north tower's collapse might necessitate its demolishing. I don't think it's likely that both towers would stay standing, but if they did, the north tower would have to be demolished, and the south tower would stay standing.

Without flight 175 crashing into WTC, what happens to United 93?

I don't see why it would be any different.

thanks for the tips. Yet I suppose Bush answer to the crisis would not change - afghanistan, patriot act, the like - since there's still a major attack on american soil, of course.
I'm asking what the death toll might be - less than 2000 perhaps ? still a bloodbath...
