With Cody's AH book The Atlantropa Articles based on that very subject coming out in Mid-October, I just wanted to give my own opinion on the matter. (Aka, a few more details)

While we can all say that Atlantropa is completely unrealistic and would kill Europe if it was built, I'm going to put the question of reasonable resource use aside, for now, to talk about some lesser-discussed details of the project's outcome.
  • Frosty Northern Europe: Without the regulating warm weather of the Mediterranean, Northern Europe would have the rough climate of Norway.
  • The Brit's Canal: Obviously, the British wouldn't be too happy about the Suez Canal becoming useless, so a Canal line would have to be built between the Suez Canal's former Mediterranean exit and the Gibraltar Dam.
  • Hydroelectric Byproduct Rivers: One of the main features of the Dams was the fact that they were Hydroelectric, so they could power Europe. One main thing that I recall about Hydroelectric Dams is that some water does have to pass through to generate power. The consequence of this is that some water ends up in the Mediterranean Basin, creating rivers. (This would also happen with the Nile and the rivers created by the planned Central African Seas since they originated in Africa).
That's all I have, for now, so please feel free to comment your ideas below.
