9/11 with todays technoligies

how would the advent of Today's mobile phones, Social Networks, more developed web media, twitter change the reporting and reactions of the WTC attacks and Pentagon attacks (they stay exacly the same).

Ten years later, many people remember that they learnt what was going on with a friend's Tweet or Facebook status.

Also, the tragedy becomes much more terrible has people trapped in the buildings update their social network status through their cell phones. It's both nightmarish and stupid too, as their only reflex in the midst of a catastrophe is to update their Facebook profiles.

Nightmarish? Yes. Stupid? Not at all. Imagine you are trapped in 110th story of the WTC 1. Behind you are the flames. You take out your mobile and twitter something along the lines of: "trapped in WTC 1 fire love you I'll jump now" and do so. It has some logic, however morbid it may be.

One major thing about September 11th was that internet servers were overwhelmed and websites simply crashed, even when they (eg Sky) dedicated all of their server capacity just to their newsfeeds. I remember that I was the only one in my office to be able to get up-to-the-minute information because I used Ananova, an image-light news aggregator.

I certainly imagine Twitter would crash and be useless, you often get "Over Capacity" even now when there's not much going on

Maybe we also get something like this

Anyone sitting at the Windows of the world eating breakfast. "Hey, that plane is flying wery low. I think i will film it." Then continue to film it until the plane crash into the tower he is sitting in. That guy post it on Facebook and/or Twitter.

Also, there is a chanse that one of the 18 people that found stairwell A in the second tower post something on a social network/newspaper telling that stairwell A is ok at the point of impact and people above the point of impact hear about it and manages to get down that way.

And as the policemen in the first tower hit get the order to evacuate the firemen may still have the lousy communicationdevices, but they might have mobile phones or Iphones with them. Deathtoll in tower 2 was 600 people. That number might be a few hundred less in todays world.

400+ firemen, police officers and other rescue people might be a few people less killed since modern communication can save them.

The people trapped in the towers might also send pictures of blocked stairwells and the destruction from the planes.

If you think the French brothers documentury is eiry with the first plane flying straight into the towers, imagine pictures from inside the towers of it coming towards them

The communication problems that they had at the WTC on 9/11/01, they still have, even with current technology. The communications problems go all the way back to the WTC attack in 1993.

Depending upon signal strength, it might make search and rescue a bit easier. GPS capable cell phones make it easier to pinpoint survivors.

Well, I believe though I could be mistaken, GPS were put into most companies cell phones as a means of transmitting locations in emergency situations as a result of 9/11 itself. Like I said, not sure how accurate it is but I did work for a cell phone company and remember hearing stuff about that.
