60 Years

Welcome to 60 years! A collaborative timeline in the spirit of "XXth century" "50 Years", and "100 Years". Beginning on January 1st, 1960 and ending on January 1st, 2020, this timeline will explore just how much difference 60 years can make. The butterfly effect will be used in partial, which means that anyone born after the PoD can appear if the plot demands it, but it is encouraged to introduce fictional characters as well. Now, let us begin, on January 1st, 1960. As long as the PODs described are not ASB in nature, the POD will be accepted!!

Some beginning ideas for the 60's:

Nikita Khrushchev is assassinated on January 1st, 1960 by a crazed man who claims to be Joseph Stalin.

Barry Goldwater and Nelson Rockefeller beat Lyndon Johnson and Adlai Stevenson after Richard Nixon is assassinated.

The Bay of Pigs invasion is marginally successful and provokes a Cuban Civil War.

Goldwater and Rocky are not going to be on the same ticket- pure ASB.

Bay of Pigs will likely not happen under a GOP administration.

Rocky is on the ticket churn out some votes and doesn't actually give him any power, like what happened with Teddy Roosevelt.

Why not with Bay of Pigs?

Rockefeller and Goldwater represent opposite wings of the party, and no one can put them on the same ticket. To use a modern analogy, it would be like having Lincoln Chafee as Sarah Palin's running mate. Bay of Pigs was denounced by Nixon in the second debate IOTL and certainly would not be pursued by Rocky, who was a former ASOS for Latin America, spoke fluent Spanish, and was familiar with the region.

Fair enough, I just thought It'd be funny to have the Pres and VP look so eerily similar. Who would be an acceptable replacement for Rocky?

Bill Scranton or Hugh Scott, the governor and junior senator from Pennsylvania respectively. Or Ken Keating, the (Catholic) junior senator from New York. IOTL he's known for two things: endorsing Lyndon and having Bobby wipe the floor with him in 1964.

Oh Christ! Another one? Why go with the same date? Why not do 1950-2010? Another one beginning in 1960 would just create to much confusion IMO. Also, partial butterfly?
