25 Year War

After 1900? The only thing that comes to mind is have some kind of nazi victory scenario with Russia retreating behind the Urals, and then a war between the two nations countinue for 25 years. They seem to be the only nations that could possible sustain 25 years of war, because a democracy, i think, would tire of it.

Heck, by 1945 both the Germans and the Soviets were running short of warm male bodies, and that was after less than 4 years...WWII-esque war kills a _lot_ of people.

Now, if you have something like the French-English hundred years war back when, with multiple temporary armistices and lengthy intervals of relatively little fighting, it might be doable. Continous industrial warfare? I don't really see it.

(If you see WWII as a direct outgrowth of WWI, 1914-1945 can be treated as one long conflict, with a lengthy armistice in Europe 1919-1939, and a shorter one in Asia.)

And the (hopefully) recenently ended Sri Lankan civil war ran for 40 years. Where both sides had airforces and navies.

I just don't see it happening in democracies or between nuklear armed countries.
