Hollis Reportedly MIA; CJ Cregg Moving Back To West Coast? Sam Seaborn's Dreams, Jed Bartlett Conspiracy Theories

Washington-Embattled VP nominee Franklin Hollis is said to have been absent from White House Christmas celebrations as his legal team tries to figure out how to get the required electoral votes for him to officially become Vice President-Elect. President-elect Seaborn has been notoriously silent on the Hollis matter, and on what he would do if Hollis does not in fact become his VP; this would make Seaborn one of nineteen presidents to serve without a VP for at least part of their presidency. Although Hollis leaving the Seaborn team would give Seaborn a number of options for a new, more palatable VP who would be more acceptable to his Democratic base, the entire Hollis saga has already left a negative mark on a presidency that hasn't even officially started yet.

Former Seaborn campaign manager and White House press secretary CJ Cregg may be returning to her roots. Following an apparent falling out with Seaborn over the Hollis situation, Ms. Cregg is reportedly headed to the West Coast, possibly to either Los Angeles or San Francisco, to be closer to her longtime friend and love interest Danny Concannon, and to once again become involved in either the film and television industry or possibly book publishing. A spokesperson for Cregg denied rumors that she is writing a book about her experiences with the Seaborn campaign, saying only that, after several years of public service, CJ is "taking a breather and a well-deserved break" from politics.

President-elect Seaborn is said to be having "discussions" with his former boss, the late former President Jed Bartlett, who reportedly appears in the form of a visitation or in Seaborn's dreams. "I see Jed, talk to him, ask him for advice," Seaborn reportedly told incoming Trade Representative Charlie Young. Young has denied the rumor, although he did note that Seaborn saw the late President as a father figure and was personally devastated by his passing.

On the subject of Jed Bartlett, a number of conspiracy theories have been making their rounds around the fringes of the Internet, with the most prominent being that the former President is in fact still alive, and living under an alias in either his native New Hampshire or in Washington itself to be closer to his wife, who will soon be Health Secretary. Abigail Bartlett herself has been quick to denounce such rumors, calling them "the kind of stuff people who spend too much time in their parents' basements yak about to each other in the dead of night," and said that she "misses Jed dearly, but he is gone, and we now have his heir in Sam Seaborn." Attempts to dismiss the rumors haven't stopped them from finding a small but vocal following online, resulting in memes and gifs suggesting that Bartlett is alive that have since gone viral.

President-Elect Seaborn sends letter of resignation to California Governor Heilemann

In the last few minutes the office of the President-Elect and the office of California Governor Abbie Heilemann has confirmed that Sam Seaborn has sent in his formal letter of resignation from the Senate to the Governor Under Article I, Section 3 of the Constitution.

Governor Heilemann will make an appointment to fill the vacancy, and the appointee serves until the next regularly-scheduled, state-wide general election which in this case will be in 2020.

We also understand that due to the almost certainty that the Vice-President will be decided by the Senate next Friday, Seaborn didn't want to be in the position of voting against Senator Jack Hunter, the man who could very well now serve as his Vice-President.

Is it possible that having a Republican VP could benefit the Seaborn administration in some way? i.e. they'd have someone who, "Speaks Republican".

I'd imagine Sam is more likely going to feel like John Adams with an opposition Vice President working to undermine the Administrations goals in the Senate and in 2022 we'll end up with the first election since 1800 where a sitting VP challenges a sitting President. That'd be the craziest thing since Aaron Burr and Burr shot a guy! lol ;)

Who knows. Maybe Hunter will get drunk and shoot his buddy in the face while hunting.

Here are the odds set by the betting markets for the California Senate appointment.

Guillermo Augusto (3.5/1)
Gabe Tillman (5/1)
Ronnie Reynolds (6/1)
Samantha Bowman (7.5/1)
Lauren Seaborn (9.25/1)
Abbie Heilemann (12/1)
Arnold Vinick (12.5/1)
Jack Caton (13.5/1)
Eve Howard (16/1)
Jennifer Vinick (60/1)
C.J. Cregg (400/1)

I like how Nicole Kershaw is a candidate for appointment even though she's already in the Senate.

2019 election outlook (US and international)

United States (regularly scheduled)
  • Kentucky gubernatorial: Incumbent Ed Barrie (R), a retired general, was first elected in 2015. He is eligible for a second term, for which he is running. Potential Democratic candidates include former Governor Chris Mannix, and businessman J. Elbert Kerrington. Barrie is relatively popular in this strong Republican state and the Democratic bench is thin. As such, Barrie is favored for re-election.
  • Mississippi gubernatorial: Incumbent Alan Fisk (D), the former Attorney General of the United States, was first elected in 2015. He is eligible for a second term. He has not yet announced his plans. Potential Republican candidates include former Governor Katie Hodder-Shaw, Congressman Raymond Purcell, and incumbent Deputy Secretary of Labor Polly Liston, who was lieutenant governor. Fisk is surprisingly popular for a Democrat in Mississippi but still faces long odds due to the election system in the state.
  • Oregon gubernatorial: Incumbent Walter Collins (R), first elected in 2015, is eligible for a second term. He is running. Collins is being challenged by perennial candidate Stewart Young. Potential Democratic candidates include State Attorney General Brandon Bullich, son of former Senator Lyndon Bullich, Congressman Evan Rhodes and former Oregon Ducks head coach Mike Radnofsky. Congressman Will Bailey, who will be White House of Chief of Staff, already ruled out a run earlier in 2018, to the disappointment of state Democrats. Collins is highly popular in the state among both Democrats and Republicans. As such, many Democrats will likely be avoiding a big battle with him.
  • South Carolina gubernatorial: Incumbent Ethan Butler (R), first elected in 2015, is eligible for a second term. He is running. Potential Democratic candidates include former Governor Nate Singer, Congresswoman Elle Barclay, and country singer Jackie Thompson. Although South Carolina has been back-and-forth between the parties recently, Butler is generally favored.
  • Vermont gubernatorial: Incumbent Janet Lorton (D), first elected in 2007, is eligible for a fourth term. She has not declared her intentions yet. Potential Democratic candidates include Congresswoman Alexis Larroquette, State Senator Yancy Hall, and Lorton's predecessor, Frank Orton. Potential Republican candidates include incumbent federal prosecutor M. Randall Miller and perennial candidate Jeffrey Spader. Lorton, who has won her past elections in huge landslides, is heavily favored if she runs, but the race would become relatively more competitive without her.
United States (special elections)
  • MI-14: Congresswoman Meredith Payne has been nominated for Secretary of the Treasury. If she is confirmed, a special election will be triggered. This district contains parts of Detroit and neighboring areas.
  • NY-11: Long time incumbent Congressman Mark Richardson has been nominated for Secretary of Housing and Urban Development. If he is confirmed, a special election will be triggered. This district is entirely within Brooklyn.
  • OR-04: Incumbent Congressman Will Bailey will be resigning to become White House Chief of Staff, triggering a special election. This district contains southwestern Oregon.
International
  • Brazil: (7 June 2019) Incumbent President Francisco Fernandes Caxias (MDB), who succeeded Marco Da Luca after his death in 2015, is eligible for re-election. He is running for a second (full) term. Paulo de Abreu is running as a PSDB candidate. Andre Augusto Matarazzo said he will run once he is released from prison, which will likely occur some time in March. He will seek to form an alliance between his party, Rede Sustantabilidade, and the Green Party. Various other candidates are running. Legislative elections will be held concurrently.
  • Ukraine: (31 March 2019) Incumbent President Valentin Sobolevsky, a Liberal, is imperiled. First elected in a 2016 special election, he is seeking a full five year term. Former Justice Minister Nastia Konanov is running as the candidate of the Remembrance Party. Radmila Rudenko is running for the Democratic nomination again. There are no Unionist candidates yet. Parliamentary elections for the 450 seats of the Rada will be held concurrently.
