Walken endorsed by Black Community Leader in New York

Reverend Torvald James of the Bethany Baptist Church has been meeting with Presidential Candidates from Newman to Bartlet. He has been in the pulpit for over 30 years in Brooklyn, New York. This respected black leader who shocked the press and his community by issuing an endorsement for Glen Allen Walken's campaign.
He issued the statement saying:

"President Walken has demonstrated values and beliefs and in his time in New York he has demonstrated his care for the black community on and off the campaign trail. He is no Vinick, but he is appreciated in my church. Matt Santos and the Democratic Party, have not demonstrated care for black people in this community and it is shameful that he has not come out here once in 2006 or 2010. Most members of my church are voting either for Walken or Alexander, I don't know about anyone else but my church has always been very Democratic."

The reverend endorsed Bob Russell in 2006 after a meeting with the VP and was expecting a meeting with Matt Santos and another black leader Judge Morton Phillips (who is now an Alexander supporter) n 2009 which Santos never showed up for only to be told that the president canceled at the last minute offending both.

Walken is reported grateful for the Reverend's endorsement and looks to a non-political service on Sunday of next week with the Reverend. Walken has also donated to the Church's Charity Fund.

Alexander Campaign Director Appearance on Fox News Report with Meredith Carson Yesterday
Saturday, June 19, 2010

Bruno Gianelli, noted former Democratic and Republican campaign advisor, appeared on Fox News Report yesterday to discuss his simple campaign strategy for the Alexander/Woodside presidential campaign. Gianelli brought a simple poster board that mentioned his idea. "Win Florida" it said, with Gianelli expanding "It's our one-state strategy."

Florida is the home state of General Alexander, and it's been a toss-up between Walken, Santos, and Alexander during the entire election so far. The Alexander campaign, which has been struggling financially since they replaced their campaign team, has pulled all it's advertisements and many offices outside of other states to focus on the Floridian strategy. Gianelli believes that winning Florida would be a benchmark for the campaign, and would legitimize Alexander in the eyes of many voters across the other states. He expects Alaska, North Dakota, Georgia, Connecticut, Vermont, and Illinois to follow suit, based on his current polling.

He then expands that he may strive for a California vote and would "love to get Arnie Vinick's support on that." Gianelli concluded his interview by explaining that Mike Reed is just another "crazy kook that makes my guy look good" and giving host Meredith Carson a lovely necklace, which she refused on grounds of journalistic integrity.

Shallick & Hunt Question Alexander's Fitness to Lead

Two leading supporters of Republican presidential candidate Glen Walken have questioned General Nicholas Alexander's handling of the tax revelations of his running mate Franklin Woodside.

Shallick, appearing on CNN's State of the Union, told host Candy Crowley "I don't want to turn this into a slagging match but the fact remains that Congressman Woodside has failed to pay a vast sum in tax. In my view that seriously questions the judgement of the man who professes to want to be the Vice-President."

The Missouri Governor continued then questioned the total silence of the Alexander campaign over the issue. "So far neither Woodside nor General Alexander has either tackled the situation or even apologised. They seem to think that if they just don't talk about it - that they pretend to be 'a new kind of politician' that nobody will notice. It's ridiculous."

Shallick's questions were mirrored on Meet the Press by Arizona Senator Matt Hunt who said "General Alexander may be a very small part of this election but there are serious questions about his handling of this situation. A failure to pay over $150,000 in tax is fairly damning but the total refusal of the Alexander campaign to tackle the situation raises very real doubts about them."

Senator Hunt also took a shot at Ohio Governor Mike Reed, who is believed to be considering challenging Vice-Presidential nominee Liz Clark at the Republican convention. "Governor Reed seems to have taken leave of his senses. Senator Clark has proven to be a great choice, she's has a very strong conservative background and is really connecting with voters. The idea that anyone at the Republican convention is going to try to back Governor Reed is pure fantasy."

Former Maryland Governor withdraws Alexander Endorsement

Governor Robert Talbot, the former Independent Governor of Maryland, has withdrawn his endorsement of General Nicholas Alexander over what he describes as "a hideous refusal to deal with the tax return revelations" of his running mate Frank Woodside.

Talbot's endorsement was heavily trailed by the Alexander campaign, and this unexpected about face will not help the former Chairman of the Joint Chiefs cause.

Alexander took further fire on the Sunday talk shows with both Republicans and Democrats attacking his remarkable silence over this issue.

Republicans Henry Shallick and Matt Hunt, were joined by leading Democrats Governor Isaac Sidley and Congressman Will Bailey in their accusations that Alexander was showing a complete inability to lead.

Alexander team belived to be vetting replacements for Woodside

The announcement that Franklin Woodside is going to face the media in the morning has increased speculation that Nicholas Alexander could be ready to sack his running-mate.
The appointment of Bruno Gianelli as campaign manager seems to have lead a change in the policy of the Alexander which since the story regarding Woodside's tax returns broke over two weeks ago, seems to have been ignore it, and hopes it goes away, which it clearly hasn't.
There are Strong suggestions that the Alexander camp have already spoken to Former Democratic Governor of Arkansas Jack Griffith who ran for the Democratic nomination in 2006, and he has no love of President Santos. The name that has been suggested other than Mike Reed, which would be a bigger mistake that Woodside, is that of former South Carolina Governor Macdonald Barclay. Barclay who is 71, is a long-term supporter of the military and has no love of Washington, he once called all Congressman of either party "bums". South Carolina and its northern neighbor are turning into battleground states, and Barclay would clearly help in both. But how a man who turns 72 in December could be viewed as "change" is more difficult.
The fact that the Woodside conference in the morning is being held in South Carolina, has got people putting two and two togther, although we will have to see.

Woodside "It was a simple accounting error"

Franklin Woodside finally addressed the question of his tax returns today, the problem which has been dogging the Alexander campaign for the last few weeks.
It has to be said the Woodside defence that it was a "simple accounting error" , he said that he had sacked his accountant. Then in a very bizarre moment he said he believed that the computers at the accountants had been "hacked into, by forces unknown, but everyone can guess" when asked what he meant "simple, by those that have the most to lose by our campaign" although he refused to name the Republicans or the Democrats directly. He also said that he had "reported the matter to the police" and had employed a new accountant, and and would repay any outstanding monies if required.
Asked if he still had the confidence of General Alexander "Of course, I am not leaving our ticket" and then said "There are problems in America greater than my tax returns, that is what we should be discussing".

Keynote speech looks like setting Senator Riley up for the GOP nomination in 2014 or 2018

The release of the schedule for the Republican convention in Dallas, Texas in a month's time and the up and coming star of the party Senator Cody Riley, who is not 38 until September of Alabama, has been the given the much converted Tuesday night, prime-time slot.
Riley who was under consideration as Walken's running-mate this year, until he ruled himself out, mainly because his wife is due to give birth to twins in August, is regarded as certain to run for the White-House in four or eight years.
Riley who only entered the Senate four years ago, is expected to cruise to re-election in two years time. If Walken fails to win the election in November, then many believe that Riley will also certainly run for the Presidency in 2014, when he would only be 42. If Walken wins then he clearly setting himself up for 2018 when he would only be 46 years old.

The Ottawa Gleaner

The Liberal Party Illusion

October will not be a good month for Laurent Cousin. If his party survives the overhaul of Tim Gardener's Conservative Party he will be ruling his constituents with a minority once again. Cousin should have resigned in 2008. He had every opportunity to relieve his command once more to Stefan Dallaire, a more stable figure in the party, instead Mr. Cousin decided to keep his ego trip all the way to a mere two seat majority in 2008. A very short journey for such a big ego trip plan. It was the fallacy of his planned "12 seat majority" that humiliated him and his party. Mr. Cousin has no chance to even gain the most seats in the Canadian House of Commons, even with a coalition with the NDP. Stephen Addison is looking to a 41 seat strategy to gauge public eye to the New Democrats' cause in displacing the Liberal Party.

A fallacy is what PM Cousin bases his seating on, he has since denied dealing with the NDP for coalition and they also do a bad job at pretending they don't need it. It's a call to fate for the Liberals and one can only imagine the loss of feeling in Mr. Cousin's cranial activity

Primary Contests heating up!!!

In both the democratic and republican parties, the Primaries are heating up. Incumbent Senator Joanne White seems poised to lose her parties nomination to Honolulu Mayor, David Kuhio. The White campaign has lost the support of the DNC which is now playing the middle ground, however many old democratic politicians continue to defend her and some have even begun to campaign for her.

President Santos has stated: "I'm gonna support my old friend Joanne. She still knows what she's doing. Unfortunately, I can't take a vacation to Hawaii right now, but if I could, I would be out there campaigning with her. And I know she's got some fight left in her.

Also holding their endorsements of Senator White are former DNC Chair and Maryland Governor Barry Goodwin, Congresswomen Carol Gelsey, and former Vice-President Eric Baker. Goodwin and Baker are planning on a trip to Hawaii to campaign for White. Goodwin had this to say on the matter:

"I, along with everyone in the democratic party, are happy to see someone like David come along. He's young, he's smart, he's charismatic, and poised to have a future in the party, but I believe that only Senator White has the ability to win in november. With us so close to being in control of the white house and both houses of congress, we can't afford this infighting."

It should be noted however, that it is incredibly unlikely that either Republican candidate will beat either White or Kuhio in the general election. Hawaii has voted democratic every year since President Lassiter's 49 state victory in 1994.

Prominent democrats supporting Mayor Kuhio include, Incumbent Vice-President Wendell Tripplehorn, former California Governor Gabe Tillman, DNC Chair Josh Lyman, and perhaps most surprisingly, New York senator Andrew Thorn. Senator Thorn and Mayor Kuhio had the chance to meet in 2006 when Kuhio was working as a deputy Secretary of State, Secretary Berryhill sent Kuhio to meet with Senator Thorn, and their friendship began in earnest.

"David is a great guy, and is exactly what this country needs. A young, progressive, who is not aged after years of putting up with Washington politics. And someone who is not afraid to fight corruption. He's got my full support, 100% of the way." Senator Thorn had to say. However, he did not comment as to whether or not he'd be making a campaign trip with Kuhio.

In the Republican party, State Senate Minority Leader Sarah Sloan, runs against former CEO of Quiksilver, Paul Snider. Both are fairly moderate for Republicans, some would even venture to call Sloan a liberal. Each of them have their fair share of endorsements, but no one too big. Senator Riley called them both RINOs, Republican's in Name only. The only endorsement worth mentioning, is Richard Lassiter's endorsement of Snider. Other than that, they are all minor.

Democratic Party:

Senator Joanne White - 49%
Mayor David Kuhio - 49%
Undecided - 2%

Republican Party:

State Senate Minority Leader Sarah Sloan - 47%
Former CEO of Quiksilver Paul Snider - 45%
Undecided - 8%

Gelsey To Call For Caucus Vote on Speakership Issue on Thursday; Sources Indicate She Has The Votes.

Congresswoman Carol Gelsey will call for a vote of the Democratic Caucus on Thursday to determine the control of the House of Representatives. Sources within the Gelsey camp say that she believes she has the support to be named the new Speaker of the House.

"Congresswoman Gelsey believes that she has the votes to be elected Speaker," said one high-ranking Democratic aide. "More importantly, she believes she has the right ideas."
While a Speakership challenge would be massive news any other time, the Presidential race has taken up most of the attention, meaning Gelsey, Congressman Mark Richardson and Speaker Mark Sellner have been fighting a quiet battle behind the scenes.

However, the Democrats are not the only ones involved in the leadership race. Several Republicans are planning to go to the parliamentarian of the House with a question on if the Democrats are even in control, saying that their 217 members does not constitute a majority of the House.

Bill Rowe, spokesman for House Minority Leader Jim Arkin, released a statement saying, "If there is a vote held this Thursday, the Republicans should be a part of it. The Democrats will not be allowed to twist the rules of the House, of democracy and the Constitution themselves, to maintain a hold on power."

It seems that most of the power within the House lies not with the Republican or Democratic caucuses, but rather with the 5 independents. MacKenzie Allen and Stoker Hanson lean Democratic, while Nathan Templeton and Sam Wendt(Despite their respective "Independent Democrat" and "Banished from the Republican Party" statuses) both are usually GOP voters. So the deciding vote in the House could come down to one Franklin Woodside of Alaska-A possibility that must have Bruno Gianelli and the rest of the Alexander camp sitting up in notice.

Both the White House and the Walken campaign were contacted with requestes for comment on this story, and both declined.

With all of it's twists and turns, this Speaker's contest has baffled even veteran Congress watchers. Dave Dernazza, the famed writer of the Washington Post's The Mix column, said "Honestly, I can't ever recall a race like this. This is more like a British Parliamentary race than anything the US has ever seen. You'd probably get more insight from our English cousins than any American at this point!"

Mr. Bunny,

I am saddened to see that Senator Chris Carrick (R-ID) does not, as of yet, have a prominent role at the GOP National Convention. As one of the Party's experts on defense and science/technology issues I believe that he should be called upon to give a vigorous, but reasoned, attack on the disastrous policies of the Santos Adminstration.
Having just been a delegate to the GOP State Convention in Dallas, I have a few words of advice for the men and women who will be gathering in Dallas to nominate the Walken and Clark ticket:
1. Wear comfortable shoes. The Dallas Convention Center is a huge place and your caucus room may literally be a mile from the main meeting hall.
2. It will be very, very hot outside the Convention Center, but quite cold inside. Dress accordingly. We Texans love our air conditioning and we are quite good at it.
3. The Rodeo Bar at the Adolphus Hotel has cold beer on tap and free peanuts.

Your servant,
AH

Greetings everybody, this is my first post on this blog and I wanted to take this time to introduce myself...

I absolutely love The West Wing and after carefully reading the past 97 pages on this blog I can see I'm not the only one...

I would love to contribute my expertise to this post...My role will be minor but I believe, still effective. I have my college degree in graphic design and So I would love to design some imagery for this post such as various campaign ads, bumper stickers etc. I have currently designed some ideas for campaign yard signs and campaign bumber stickers for both the Democrats and Republicans. I won't unveil them until around the party conventions. I am currently designing different rally signs for the conventions as well and I will post those once the conventions begin.

I look forward to contributing my ad designs in the future months

thanks

Here is a sample Of what I was mentioning earlier

These are rally signs that will be given out at the RNC in Dallas, Texas...There will be more to come

Not Exactly a Big-Tent Party?

Log Cabin Republicans Unhappy with GOP Adminstration

BURLINGTON - Monday's release of the schedule for the Republican Convention in Dallas did not seem to please all facets of the Republican party. One group in particular was especially outraged at its exclusion from the nominating convention: the Log-Cabin Republicans.

The Log Cabin Republicans were infuriated at the failure to include Vermont Congressman Matthew Skinner in the lineup for the convention, citing that this denotes a dangerous direction for the Republican Party. Chairman of the Log Cabin Republicans Anthony Kellogg had this to say:

"While our organization shares the fundamental principles of former Acting President Walken, we are greatly disappointed with the failure of the candidate as well as the Republican National Committee to advocate equal rights, most notably the rights of America's homosexual community."

This newspaper attempted to reach the Republican National Committee for official comment but to no avail, although aides to an unnamed Virginia lawmaker reasoned that the failure to include Congressman Skinner was because "GOP priorities are not focused upon LGBT rights at this current time." And they certainly haven't.

In fact, neither candidate has spent much time on this topic. The last time homosexuality came to the forefront of the Republican Party was during the Conservative Political Action Conference, otherwise known as CPAC, when former Governor Edward Pratt of Tennessee said that he was "threatened by homosexuality." Skinner rebutted the Tennessean, but later remarked that these events were "not uncommon" in his career with the Republican Party. That fact could explain why the GOP did not include the Vermont Congressman in its convention.

However, one thing remains, Skinner faces an uphill battle, both with his party and in his latest political endeavor, the Vermont Senatorial race. He faces former Lt. Governor Alison Benstead, who fought a tough primary race and has shown herself to be a darling of the local community. It's no secret that Skinner needs help, in the words of Skinner aide Karl Polk, "We've been left in the cold by the GOP at the convention, and not treated much better in this race."

Deaths in Israel-Palestine Region at All-Time High

Israel-Palestine-conflict-tank.jpg

A now infamous image of a US tank in the Gaza Strip.

Military sources in Jerusalem have reported that the number of US casualities per month has reached its highest level since the United States began involvement following President Bartlet's Peace Accord in November 2004.

Since the beginning of June, an estimated 107 American soldiers have died in combat in Israel, serving as peace keepers in the region. Initially, they were meant to be confined to the Jerusalem-area, but their role later expanded further into the West Bank and the Gaza Strip. President Matthew Santos has declared their role to be "tantamount in the process of achieving a two-state solution."

The most recent tragedy came last night, where four American soldiers were killed after a roadside bomb exploded near Tel Aviv, Israel. Palestinian groups had already claimed it was their actions that led to these deaths. These four deaths broke the previous record of 103 deaths, set in March of this year.

Violence has recently risen in the region, and leaders are struggling to adapt.

June 23rd 2010

Welcome everyone!

In this bi-weekly article we are going to examine the world of Presidential politics. I will offer my views and concerns with what's going on during the 2010 Presidential Election between incumbent Democratic President Matthew Santos and Republican candidate, former speaker of the house, and former acting President Glen Allen Walken.

Today's agenda...

Does Walken have New York in his pocket?
While it seems very interesting to see a traditional Democratic state become a battleground state I don't see the Republicans walking away with it in November. It's easy to see that Walken has focused his campaign on New York State...visiting Buffalo and gaining Black minority support in New York City. Politics and geographical demographics play hand in hand. Major metropolitan areas such as New York City and Los Angeles tend to vote Democratic because they lean towards liberal ideas, that's why rural upstate New York tends to vote Republican more often as does the more rural U.S South region. While I can see Walken dominating Upstate New York in November, I still see the City leaning towards Santos which will carry him over to win. Of course this is just my prediction.

With the current problems in the Gaza Strip and growing economic and leadership concerns, is President Santos doomed to re-live a Newman-like fate?
There are many problems that we are facing today in the U.S. When a President is running for re-election it allows his opponents to attack their administration's record during the last 4 years. This provides more than enough ammunition for Glen Walken and Liz Clark during the General Election. Many of the people that I have talked to here in New York City believe that President Santos may very well serve only one term like Former President Newman. The way that the electoral map projections read...this will be a closer race than anybody could have predicted. If you think it's hard to run for President remember this...it's twice as hard to get re-elected. I wish the best of luck to President Santos and his campaign team over the next several months. I am however, very excited that this race for the White House is between two very qualified individuals. I will be watching closley in the next few months.

That's it for today's discussion folks...don't be afraid to email me any questions you may have...who knows...You might end up seeing them answered here...

In the next article I will discuss my thoughts on both the RNC and DNC convention schedules and I will also discuss the speculation that Cody Riley may very well be our future President.

Until next time,

E.C
