Fitzsimmons Roles Out Key Early State Endorsements

With escalating poll ratings and a real sense of momentum, Massachusetts Senator Jimmy Fitzsimmons is starting to emerge as the candidate to beat in the Democratic presidential primary race. Looking to seize on recent progress Fitzsimmons today announced to high profile endorsements in early states.

At this morning’s announcement on Capitol Hill, Fitzsimmons was joined by Iowa Senator Rod Kasey and New Hampshire Senator Scott Larkin both of whom professed support for the first term Senator. Kasey said “I’d urge the people of Iowa to back Jimmy – he’s the only candidate in this race that can bring a change to this town – the only one who can get this country back on the right track to a more equal and fairer country.”

Senator Larkin, who as the former Mayor of Manchester is a close friend of Fitzsimmons praised the energy he has brought to the race adding “I’m thrilled to be able to support (Fitzsimmons) for President. We need a President who is more in touch with main street – and I’m 100% certain that Jimmy is that man.”

Both Kasey and Larkin were seen as key early endorsements although the latter was always expected to back Fitzsimmons it is likely to generate significant coverage in both states.

Just a public service anouncement, I will not be posting live coverage of the UK Election tonight, BUT I will be posting a article in the morning giving the brief outline of the result as well as posting two PDF files. One will be the results as they happended the other a spreadsheet with all the results, and much more.

Andrew Carter returns to Number Ten as Conservatives win with a landslide

Prime-Minister Andrew Carter has been returned to power after a stunning General Election victory.

With still a handfull of seats to be decleared later this morning, and the Northern Ireland seats this evening, the Conservatives look on course for a overall majority of 136 seats. They made during the night a total of thirty three gains losing only four seats, Nottingham East back to Labour, Moray, Perth and North Pershire both to the SNP, and Poplar and Canning Town to the NPP.

It was a dreafull night for Labour with them losing 37 seats, and gaining only three, Nottingham East, Ochil and South Perthshire and Ynys Mon. Five members of the Shadow Cabinet lost their seats as well. Labours share of the poplar vote has slupped to just under 24%.

The Liberal Democrats have at the moment 21 seats, with Berwick-upon-Tweed due to declare this morning, although it is belived the Conservatives have a chance of winning this.

The National Peoples Party did not reach Leader Robert Websters target of ten seats, they now have five, after winning three more. Popular and Canning and Lewihsam were won with double figure majorities, 39 and 43 respectively. The other seat taken was West Ham from Labour with a majority of 935. They have polled 5% of the national poll, an increase of 1.36 on 2011.

Corey Election Sees New York Swing Back To The Democrats

It’s been a tough few years in New York for Democrats as a string of scandals, and underperforming candidates have handed the Republicans some highly unexpected in encouragement in the bluest of states.

With Senator Jay Cruger, Crase and the far closer than expected re-election of Andrew Thorn some has speculated that the Republicans were set to make serious breakthroughs in the state - but that narrative took a serious blow on Tuesday as City Councilman Richard Corey defeated incumbent Jesse Crase to become Mayor New York.

Corey’s margin of victory was significantly higher than polls had expected with many expecting a very close race due to Crase’s relative popularity in the state. The ability of the Democratic machine to turnout voters who’ve stayed at home in recent elections was impressive and will certainly encourage embattled state Governor Matthew Lewis ahead of his re-election bid next year.

The major difference for Corey than other recent campaigns was the huge swing he achieved amongst moderates who had previously backed Crase.

Mayor Crase was gracious in defeat congratulating Corey and wishing him well. Speculation started quickly that Crase may attempt a quick comeback and run against unpopular Governor Matthew Lewis - a move that might put former State Senator Rob Cole under pressure after a fairly disappointing campaign thus far.

I have a full seat by seat result PDF, with full %'s Pop votes etc, but it is too big to upload.
I will do a summary sheet, and try and find a way to upload the full seat by seat results.

Carter completes Cabinet reshuffle

Prime-Minister Andrew Carter as completed the reshuffle of his cabinet following the General Election victory.

Three people have left the cabinet Nicholas Duncan, Andrew Masser and Ed Barker all who told the Prime-Minister that they wished to retire from the front bench.

The biggest suprise was Chancellor George Tamm who has been moved from the Treasury to take over at the Ministry of Justice and becomes Lord Chancellor, with William Morgan moving from the Home Office to be the new Chancellor. Morgan will now have held the three great officers of state after already been Foreign and Home Secretary. Nigel Jay who has been regarded as the one the major sucess of the first Carter administration becomes Home Secretary at just 35 years old, the same age as Winston Churchill when he became Home Secretary in 1910 and he has only been in Parliament for five years. Replacing Nicholas Duncan at Culture Media Sport is James Hawthorne who only joined the Cabinet in September 2012. Andrew Osbourne is the new Leader of the House replacing Ed Barker who turns 67 next week has said he wanted to retire from the Cabinet. Mauren Grarty becomes Party Chairman in her own right, and stays as First Secretary of State and Defence Secretary. Taking over Osbourne's old job at Education is Robert Bolton who moves from International Devleopment. Three new faces have joined the cabinet Karen Purvis is the new International Development Secrtary, Jeremy Ford replaces Jay as the new Communities Secretary having served as Jay's number two man, and Simon John is the new Secretary of State for Administravtive Affairs. All other posts remain the same as the old Cabinet.
