2004- super duper disputed election

WI GW Bush won in 2000 by about 3% of the popular vote and about 30-40 electoral votes, having talked about being a "compasionate conservative" and conned some voters into thinking this meant he was some kind of moderate.

Suppose he followed the policies he did in OTL.

Suppose then a candidate who was unambigously against the war got the Demcorat nomination- maybe Dean or perhaps a reelected Senator Wellstone who had avoided the air crash or survived it with only minor injuries.

Suppose the effect of a clearer signal and less vulnerability to the 'flip flop' claim meant that the Democrats won the popular vote by say half a million but narrowly lost the electoral college.

Suppose that either Florida or Ohio (or mayb both) had allegedly produced GW Bush margins in only 3 or 4 figures and that that 50 000 or so people had been denied the vote because of inaccurate allegations that they were felons and there were other alleged discrepancies in states essential to a GW Bush victory.

How serious would the policital crisis be?
