2 Tudor Questions

Okay, so can anyone tell me when Henry Tudor (Henry VII) was betrothed to Elizabeth of York? Cause the source I found says that she was originally betrothed to him, and then to George Neville, duke of Bedford, and finally to the Dauphin until just before Edward died. Then in Richard's reign she was booted around as a possible wife for OTL Manuel I of Portugal.

Another question is, as per my timeline, Henry is still in exile, and while he is one heartbeat further from the throne than he was OTL, he's gonna stay there for a while - Brittany, France, maybe some time on the run in Wales after a failed rising.

We've already scotched the idea (in theory) for a match between him and Elizabeth - she has far bigger fish to fry - so who might be a good marriage for not only Henry, but for his uncle Jasper too.

From what I recall the idea of a marriage between her and Tudor was flirted with by her father, though (much like the marriage to her other cousin Bedford) it was less preferred than the scheduled match with the French Dauphin. Once her father died and Margaret Beaufort and Elizabeth Woodville started working together, the idea of the match was flirted with again more seriously (in fact) though not actually officialized, and her sister Cecily was considered a back-up in case she was unavailable for whatever reason.

In 1476, EIV tried to lure Tudor back to the court with the promise of a marriage to one of his younger daughters. But Margaret Beaufort and Tudor smelled a plot, and Tudor stayed in Brittany. EIV paid Duke Francis of Brittany to keep Tudor in Brittany.

Later in 1483, after EoY's betrothal to the dauphine had been broken and a few months before his own death, Holinshed says that EIV then offered Elizabeth to Henry Tudor if he returned to England.

When was it that EIV dismissed Tudor as not important or not worth the bother then?

first question: Christmas Day 1483

first question: Christmas Day 1483
I might be getting this wrong, but I believe that that was the day Tudor announced his intention to marry Elizabeth. Not a formal betrothal, more a wooing of the "Loyal Yorkist" party* while having himself crowned. Elizabeth had been offered to him before by Edward IV, but it fell through (see comments above).

Once Henry had won at Bosworth, he seems to have delayed the actual marriage as much as possible.

*Loyal to Edward IV and his children.

hm? he won at Bosworth Field in August 1485, married her January 1486, 4 months isn't much of a delay
Sorry, badly worded. He seemed to dither in whether the announcement made in Brittany was still in effect. Once he decided it was, then the marriage itself happened pretty rapidly. I don't have the sources to hand, but I can probably get something over the weekend if necessary.

However, I think Kevin is talking about the earlier tentative betrothal posited by Edward IV.

Not too rapidly, he waited once he was king to marry her to make sure she wasn't preggers by Richard III. Gross I know, but that's just one theory.

I think that A) he becoming King in his own right, and Parliament blessing him as king in his own right and B) getting the Pope to dispense the marriage as Elizabeth and Henry were related, were more the reason for waiting then any wild ideas that she had Richard III's bastard
