I'm friends with someone from Vermont who pointed out that while the US has been to war several times, there hasn't been actual warfare in Vermont since prior to 1800. What other places in the world has this been true?

For these purposes, having a country in a war doesn't mean that the areas of the country have had warfare during it (see almost all of the US during WWII), but settlement that has the a Nation's Military fighting against Aboriginal people to move them out of the way *does* count. Also Air bombardment or sea bombardment counts.

I think all of Switzerland counts as peaceful all the way back to the Sonderbundskrieg (Confederation War) in 1847, for example, but I'm not sure if the areas that didn't have fighting in the Sonderbundskrieg also avoid conflict during Napoleonic times...

Ideas?
