19th & 20th century places without war?

I'm friends with someone from Vermont who pointed out that while the US has been to war several times, there hasn't been actual warfare in Vermont since prior to 1800. What other places in the world has this been true?

For these purposes, having a country in a war doesn't mean that the areas of the country have had warfare during it (see almost all of the US during WWII), but settlement that has the a Nation's Military fighting against Aboriginal people to move them out of the way *does* count. Also Air bombardment or sea bombardment counts.

I think all of Switzerland counts as peaceful all the way back to the Sonderbundskrieg (Confederation War) in 1847, for example, but I'm not sure if the areas that didn't have fighting in the Sonderbundskrieg also avoid conflict during Napoleonic times...

Ideas?

I suppose many of the more remote areas of Russia didn't actually see any warfare since at least pre-Napoleonic times (Kostroma Oblast was the first that came to my mind; a brief check on Wikipedia seems to indicate that this one is probably correct).

Hmm. Far enough West it was part of Muscovy (so not part of the settlement going east), Far enough East that Napolean and Hitler didn't get there and close enough to Moscow that it stayed in Bolshevik hands during the entire Russian Civil War. And if it is disqualified by Nazi Eastern front Bombing, then Nizhny Novgorod or farther north at Vologda might.

Sweden. Though there were attacks on Swedish Finland in the very early 1800s, by the end of 1808, Finland was ceded to Russia and fighting stopped.
