June 6th 1986, During the England vs Morocco game, Ray Wilkins is annoyed with referee and throws the ball towards him. The ball narrowly misses (OTL: it hit him), and Wilkins gets a yellow card (OTL: Red Card). In the two minutes from the end of the 2nd half, a through ball from Wilkins reaches Lineker who scores. England win 1-0. (OTL: 0-0 draw).

June 11th 1986: England beat Poland 2-0 (OTL: 3-0), and come top of Group F. (OTL: 2nd in Group F).

June 17th Monterrey, Round of 16: England beat W. Germany 1-0 when John Barnes comes on a subsitute in Extra Time and scores a spectacular over the head goal.

June 21st Monterrey. Quarter-final - England vs Mexico. 0-0 after extra time, England win 3-1 on Penalties

June 25th Guadalajara - Semi-final - England vs France. England win 1-0 with a goal from Lineker

June 29th Mexico City - Final - England vs Argentina. England take an early lead with a goal from Lineker. In the second half, Maradona makes a near dribble nearly the length of the pitch, and equalises. 10 minutes before full time, Maradona scores a second time - England players protest that he used his hand to control the ball and beat Shilton. The referee gives a goal. Fighting breaks out between English and Argentine supporters in the stadium. The game has to be stopped when supporters storm the pitch. The referee is badly beaten by English supporters. Argentine players however make it to the safety of the tunnel. Riot police are called. By the time the game ends, 4 Argentine supporters and 2 English are dead, hundreds are injured.

England's football team are banned from international competitions.
