1984 miners strikes: The town.

1984

During the heat of the miners strikes, a demonstration in a remote mining village in the north of England gets out of hand, with strikers arming themselves, barricading parts of the town and (at least claiming to be) arming themselves with firebombs etc..

The military are called in to deal with that has (rightly or wrongly) been perceived to be a terror threat. Things escalate and get ugly quick, a dozen or so strikers are killed.

This whole thing was planned and orchestrated from the start, the government just needed the right excuse to create this social laboratory.

The remote, insular little pit village of Raynesford is swiftly disconnected from the outside world, telephone lines are severed and roads are blocked. As far as anybody living outside of Raynesford knows, the area has been requisitioned for use as an MOD testing site and the town itself has been completely evacuated. The rest of the country carries on as if nothing has happened. As far as the remaining locals know, the Russians have launched a chemical attack on Britain, those remaining in the town are given false radio reports, false television reports and even fake messages to and from loved ones living outside the town (some people with too many outside contacts are moved out). diverting focus from the events of the strike and plunging the community into a false sense or wartime patriotism, all in aid of a social experiment.

Eventually, a deal is struck by which a Billionaire buys the testing 'facility', effectively making it it's own little country. Too embarrassed, the government turns a blind eye to whatever occurs in this forgotten enclave.

I realize that this is extremely far fetched and I'll delete this if you feel it's a little too 'out there' I'm just curious as to where this scenario could go. Investigate all the avenues of possibility here.

*EDIT* Please delete THIS thread, it is in the wrong place *I'm new here!*

The cops could deal with this with no need to summon the army. If the local force did not possess the resources then mutual aid would be sent from other forces, as was done in @. I'm pretty sure that the Met's SPG would go through them like a dose of salts.

As for the rest of the scenario, I'm sorry but I think it is in the wrong forum. It's really ASB.

Miners arming themselves and escalating the struggle is an interesting turn of events. The miners on strike in Asturias in Spain in 2012 created make-shift rocket launchers to shoot fireworks at riot police, so it's not too far-fetched.

The rest of the situation you've described is a bit ridiculous, however. No government, not even a scummy Tory government, would allow such a thing to happen.
