1976: Tree-Trimming Leads to a New Korean War?

Oh yes, I remember that when I was visiting the DMZ at Panmunjom on the North Korean side about 3 years ago, our North Korean government minders/tour guide made a point to tell us about this tree cutting incident and how it almost (re)started a war. Except that in their version: (1) There was no mention of the tree being planted by Kim Il Sung; (2) There was no mention of anyone getting killed; (3) The Americans were deliberatly cutting down the tree in a way that it falls on the North Korean side, in order to provoke them.

"We 've always been at war with Eastasia.", I guess. :p
