1974 Greco Turkish war

The pod I have in mind is that Constantine’s II coup is successful against the military junta or never launches a counter coup and instead rallies the air force and navy behind the junta. If relations between Greece and Turkey still go hot and the Cyprus war still commences with a Greek declaration of war on turkey, who’s side would the world take. How would the Cold War powers react and most importantly how would nato handle two members at war with each other.

The Western world at least, will side with Turkey. They did iotl without Greek intervention and they would with it. But they'd also try really hard to get a ceasefire to avoid war between NATO members.

But if they don't and the war gets serious, I think Turkey still might be able to go ahead with the invasion.

I have a question about the real-life history behind this scenario. In OTL, how did NATO react to Greece and Turkey going to war with each other over Cyprus, considering that Greece and Turkey were supposed to be (nominal) allies?

Greece opted out of NATO atleast on paper

Best alternate timeline here would be Greece getting full support and weapons from warsaw pact and this turning into third Balkan war.

The only way I can see the Warsaw Pact getting behind Greece would be if they were communist and that would need a pod in the Greek civil war.

I’m in the same boat as you here. I would think that a majority of nato members would side with Greece as turkey was the obvious aggressor and had committed a plethora of human rights violations against Greek citizens. But then again I also see that nato wanted to keep the Turkish straights from drifting into Warsaw Pact influence. If all out war erupted I would think that the Uk would at least back Greece.

Worse has happened, soviets were not as ideological as you might think. They would happily back a fascist greek junta just to dismantle the southern front of NATO.

How far would the soviets invest into this endeavor? Are we talking financing and supplies. Or complete dismantling of turkey by a joint Greek-soviet invasion. Also keep in mind the soviets are going through a little bit of a succession crisis.

Not a invasion of Turkey, but probably just Give the greeks more offensive weapons/ lease equipment and crew to defeat the turkish invasion of Cyprus or make it really costly.Much more than in OTL
