1972: Nixon in Havana?

WI in 1972, Richard Nixon and Henry Kissinger cap off their triumphant year with a surprise visit to Havana coming off the heels of their triumphant visits to Beijing and Moscow? Would this be considered ASB as the Watergate burglars were Cuban exiles? Would such a visit cost Nixon re-election?

Nixon went to China because he could use China against the Soviets. Implementing triangular diplomacy mean the US could negotiate better with the USSR and PRC and get better deals with both.

What does travelling to Cuba give Nixon? Nothing. Visiting Cuba gives the US zilch. It would only have political negatives in domestic politics.

The use of Cuban exiles by Nixon's team would have nothing to do with this.
