I didn't want to bump the discussion thread / Historico TL about Reagan in '68.

While there were certainly good points on it, I feel like it was a little too sunny, especially for the years '69-'77. I don't think Bob Dole or Milton Friedman would take cabinet positions, and Kissinger was still an unknown.

Furthermore, Reagan in '68 is not Reagan in '80. '68 Reagan was a religious Goldwaterite who said things like "If it takes a bloodbath, let's get it over with. No more appeasement," after crushing Berkley riots and a few weeks before Kent State. Or joke about killing off California's poor with an epidemic of botulism.

Basically, with only two or less years of executive experience during one of the most divided eras of the 20th century, we wouldn't be seeing the same President that we did in 1980.

Just wanted to bring the idea up again.
