Similar to other colab timelimes on this site, 5901 will be a bit different. Firstly, I've devised a way for a more organized TL. Rules and Guidelines are below.

***

Rules and Guidelines:

-All submissions will be added in MM/DD/YY format.

-Submissions may be added for the entire decade, but some submissions may be removed or changed to line-up with continuity if they do not when I look over them.

-All months in a decade will have atleast 15 dates, whether it takes us 2 weeks or 2 months.

-Nothing overtly ASB is allowed under any circumstance. Any United States Possessions outside of OTL Borders, Puerto Rico and the USA's Pacific Territories will be removed immediately. Anything with a major border change must be described well and thought out.

-Don't do this:

11/5/60: Canada sells New Brunswick to the United States, Russia invades Western Europe, and Barry Goldwater is elected President of the United States.

-If you want to have John Lennon become British PM, DO IT!! :D Just do it right, don't just randomly have him get elected in the 80's. Tell me HOW he gets into politics.

-Have fun!!

Our main PODs:

*Republicans Nelson A. Rockefeller and Henry Cabot Lodge, Jr win a narrow victory against Democratic Senators John Kennedy and Aldai Stevenson.

*John Lennon, George Harrison, and Paul McCartney officially change the name of their band for the final time, settling on "The Quarrymen".

*Cypriot Independance is denied by the United Kingdom, leading to a massive outbreak of riots and independance rallies.

If were starting in on January 1st, 1959, the Beatles are the Quarrymen, with only Paul and John in it. And Beetles was suggested by Stuart Sutcliffe, who joined in 1960. ;)

Fixed, sorry if there was confusion at all.

@Snowman: Very true, now that I think about it. Changed. Go ahead and start adding dates for the major PoDs if you wish.

October 1st, 1962: The Quarrymen release their hit record, "Love me do".

November 26th, 1963: Secretary of State Gerald Ford issues in a press conference that "[He] is in control here". This causes a confusion among the public and sees rapid approval rating decline in the following days.

November 27th, 1963: Vice President Lodge issues a statement refutiating Secretary Ford's previous statement.

March 5, 1960: Three days after returning to the United States, Elvis Presley is honorably discharged from the military.

March 20, 1960: Elvis does his first recording session for his new album: Elvis is Back!

April 3, 1960: Elvis does his second recording session for his new album: Elvis is Back!

April 8, 1960: Elvis' new album (Elvis is Back!) is released, and two songs on it become widely popular: Are You Lonesome Tonight? and It's Now Or Never

May 12, 1960: Elvis appears on The Frank Sinatra Timex Special.

February 5, 1961: Elvis performs the first of two charity concerts in Memphis.

February 14, 1961: On his way to his second concert, Elvis gets sent to the hospital after a tragic traffic accident.

February 15, 1961: In a drugged stupor, a very groggy Elvis fires Tom Parker.

February 20, 1961: Elvis continues to act strangely. The day he is released from the hospital he mysteriously disappears, not to be seen or heard from until March.

February 1st, 1959: A majority of Switzerland's men say yes in a national referendum on women's right to vote. All polls leading up the vote had predicted defeat, but the measure was approved 505,970 (51.7%) yes to 472,695.678 (48.3%). Nineteen out of 23 of Switzerland's cantons approved the measure. While Swiss women now have the right to vote and stand for election to all federal offices (Council of States, National Council, & Federal Council), only those it cantons that approved the measure may vote or stand for election at the municipal or cantonal level. The no vote was strongest in the half-canton of Appenzell Innerrhoden where less that 20% of men approved of extending the vote to women.

No mention of Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens, or The Big Bopper? Their deaths is what put rock on the path to extinction (everyone but Elvis either got in trouble, or left, and in the vaccuum rock was dying or being corporatized.) and what made Elvis go into films since Rock and Roll didn't look like the place to make money. Then acts like Bob Dylan (the Folk Elvis) and the Beatles and British invasion would save rock.

Parker cared about the money more than Elvis did. Why can't he stay in just because he liked doing music? Besides, I haven't actually said he isn't doing movies yet. So far he's only fired Parker and disappeared until May. And with Elvis, well he covers a range beyond just rock, so it shouldn't necessarily affect him to much.

I'm not pointing out anything about what you did. I'm talking about the evolution of music here overall, and that "The Day the Music Died" is a big part of it, so those 3 should get some mention at some point.

Well, for the sake of making things interesting:

February 3, 1959: A plane containing Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens, and J.P Richardson crashes in Iowa. Amazingly, J.P. Richardson survives the crash, but is in critical condition in the hospital. He might just have a chance of surviving.

September 7, 1961: Willy Brandt is elected as the new Chancellor of Germany, as his SPD-FDP coalition wins over the CDU/CSU, led by the aged Konrad Adenauer.

September 10, 1961: Wolfgang Graf Berghe von Trips wins the Grand Prix of Italy in Monza, and wins the Formula One World Championship later this year.

October 22, 1962: An article in the German Spiegel-magazine claims, that the Bundeswehr isn't ready in case of an attack by troops of the Warsaw pact. As a result, the German Secretary of Defense is fired, and replaced by a more competent person. While the SPD-FDP government goes back to business, the CDU/CSU is outraged. The conservatives blame the magazin, for "soiling the nest". One person who is very active on that, is Franz-Josef Strauß.

January 22, 1963: Germany's chancellor Willy Brandt, and the French president Charles de Gaulle sign the Elysée Treaty.

June 26, 1963: The President of the United States, Nelson Rockefeller visits Berlin, and declares famously "Ich bin ein Berliner!"

March 31, 1965: The CDU convention in Düsseldorf nominates Ludwig Erhard as the party nominee, after a long battle against Franz-Josef Strauß. Strauß and the CSU are outraged, and form an own ticket. Many people call it the beginning of the split between the CDU and the CSU.

May 1, 1965: At the CSU convention in Munich, Franz-Josef Strauß is nominated as the candidate. Strauß delivers a controversial speech where he claims that, "[...]in order to fight communism from in- and outside, you have to take all measures necessary. Especially when the red enemy is right before your nose." While many conservatives cheer for Strauß, liberals in Germany go out on the streets in the next weeks, to protest against Strauß.

September 19, 1965: Willy Brandts SPD wins the reelection in a landslide. Especially, because the CDU and the CSU split the conservative vote what damaged both parties in the end.

February 16th, 1961: The Quarrymen play their first gig at the Cavern Club. They are quickly signed as a regular band, playing almost every night, as their fame grows in Liverpool.
