1940 Presidential Election

Hey guys. Building on the idea of an alternate 1940 UK election, this thread will serve the purpose of "nominating" candidates for the United States 1940 Presidential Election.

Here's the setting: Franklin Delano Roosevelt's second term in the White House is coming to an end. He has overseen the implementation of an aggressive "New Deal" that has not only increased government intervention into the economy, but also created a social safety net for the poor and disabled. But the economy has not yet recovered to pre-Depression levels, and with hostilities breaking out in Europe, America's role in foreign policy is up for debate. Despite immense popularity, President Roosevelt has announced he will follow the precedent of George Washington and will not seek reelection.

Your Job: Present potential nominees for both parties. Give a brief background for those who don't know much about them, and say why you would support them. Hopefully this will all go well!

Interesting idea. I'll see what I can come up with, but first, a question, do we need to follow a character sheet?

Im on my phone so I can't give much background but I'll say Robert Taft for the Republicans and Henry Wallace for the Democrats
