In retrospect, there have been few elections with such unappealing choices as the German Presidential elections of 1932.

Leading we have the incumbent, the former Field Marshal Paul von Hindenburg who despite his monarchist sympathies and the backing of virtually all parties except the Nazis and Communists would when reelected end up making Hitler chancellor and all the disasters we knew ensued.

Secondly, we have Herr Hitler himself.

Thirdly, we have kamerad Ernst Thalmann of the Communist Party who followed the Stalinist line by fighting with Socialists even as the Nazis were gaining power.

Last and the least we have Theodor Duesterberg who was a right-wing, quasi-fascist candidate but OTOH refused to join with Hitler after he took power and unlike Hindenburg was not extremely old. Quite frankly I personally choose Duesterberg as the least of all evils as opposed to OTL results, Hitler gaining power slightly earlier, or a Berlin-Moscow Red Axis being established.

Remember that you have two votes for the first and second rounds, and that Duesterberg did not run in the second and that you have the advantage of hindsight.

. . . sheeeit.

There's no winning this one. I voted for Duesterberg by virtue of the fact that, like Tito said, he's comparatively the lesser evil here without turning the Weimar Republic into a communist state. Although, I have to ask, what if Germany had drifted toward Thälmann? It'd certainly change up WWII quite a bit, to say the very least.
