I'm going to repost this on the TWC to get some information, they are usually pretty good about translations / historical information. I will link them here.

The fact that the characters were simplified already seemed fishy to me.

It's a TV series called "Garrison's Gorillas".

Hahahahahahahahahaha.

I'm afraid I have to disappoint you:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:DIt's neither Japanese nor from the 1930s, neither was it a propaganda.

This is a comic adaptation for an American TV series Garrison's Gorrillas. (加里森敢死隊).

It was ignored in the US but EXTREMELY popular in China in the 1980s.

I bought a copy of it and watched each episode more than thrice when I was 9-10 years old... It's amusing.

Worth? About 20-30 Yuan RMB, or 4 dollar 80 cents in US. :D:D:D (it's the whole set's price)

The First Episode,

Interesting fact on the TV show, but I see nothing that looks similar to the comic book unless its a connection through the translation that I can't read....

This is the cover pages of the series.
Look at the faces on the cover pages, and the faces of the heroes shown on the DVD cover above. Can't you find any similarity?
