1920 Democratic Convention

Who would you like to see win the nomination in 1920?

As a companion thread to the '1920 Republican Convention' thread, I figured I'd put up one for the Democrats. In keeping with the same general idea, vote for the candidate that you would have supported in 1920. Yes, hindsight is 20/20, but I'm hoping that we could have a matchup thread between the final Republican nominee and our final Democratic nominee.

I don't have the exact ballot numbers (Wiki doesn't, for that matter), so I'll post the candidates with links to their respective Wiki articles so that you can get a better feel of who's running for the Presidency in 1920.

James M. Cox

William G. McAdoo

Alexander Mitchell Palmer

Al Smith

John W. Davis

Edward I. Edwards

Woodrow Wilson

Why not Vice President Marshall? I still believe that, given more rein, he can seek a compromise that will gain our entry into the League.

I only polled candidates that got votes at the Convention. Marshall did not, so I'm afraid he didn't make the cut here.

I didn't realize I had accidently made this a multiple choice poll. Please state your support for one candidate and refrain from multiple voting. Thank you, and my apologies for the failure there. :p

William McAdoo. Best man to hold the Presidency in my opinion during primarily economic times, though I would hope that he would hold the office in 1929 as well.

Voted for Al Smith -- though, like I said in the other thread, Democrats could have nominated Jesus Christ and still lost in a landslide. It was just that kind of year ;)

McAdoo- Smith is too inexperienced at this stage, Cox is a "pleasant vegetable", and while I don't mind AGs with a broad view of their policing powers, Palmer is not my choice- no foreign policy creds. Davis has never been a senator or a governor, so he's out. Let's not even discuss renominating a paralyzed vegetable- nominate his wife, the real POTUS and get it over with.

While its true that the country was shifting back to the Republican I think that AL Smith would have had a better chance. He was governor of one of the largest states in the US New York. He was popular in the state and had considerable support in the Democratic establishment.
