1898 Spanish-American War:USA Keeps Guam,Phillipines,Cuba..

but not Putero Rico. But,instead of Cuba wanting it's independence..Putero Rico does..and instead of Cuba wanting it's independence in 1902..Putero Rico does. It's known that Americans actually had land in Cuba before the war and I wonder how the Cold War would have been if things were different...would the island be stable on it's own? Or would it fall to Communism,or even be dominated by another Carribean island?

What would people's ideas be if all the US gained, they kept? No independence for the Phillipines and it became "America's jewel in the Pacific"...and yes,Hawaii would still be a American territory also.

If the US had kept the Philippines they would be a major political force in the US. Today they would make up 25% of the US population if there rate of population growth had stayed the same.

I do not think the US would have kept Cuba. Afterall, most of the people in Cuba wanted Independence.

Puerto Rico would have probably elected to have stayed a Spanish Province since they were sort of autonomous by 1898. If they had gone Independent
PR. would probably be like Costa Rica or Panama. PR. did not have much infrastructure.

The Phili...what is this, some kind of bizarre Ameriwank over the Pacific? Why would the US want to annex tens of millions of people off Asia?

I thought we learned our lesson when we seized Quebec?

;)

I don't think having the Phillipines would be a ground breaking occurance, but you can argue that it has..especially in Hawaii and California. But getting all that land, for just 20 million dollars..that's plenty that could have been done.
