1871 Bourbon Restoration

what if Henri, Count of Chambord accepted the tricolour and became king of France? my personal opinions would be that France would help stabelise Spain and might even dissuade the Spanish-american war. Also with a bourbon on the throne tensions between Italy and France could increase. if ww1 happens Italy might back their ally Germany and invade France, hoping to regain Nice and get rid of bourbon restoration support. with italy on the german side the war would probably be over by 1915. i'm pretty sure France would just steam roll all the way to Tyrol, Germany and Austria would have to divert troops to help italy from the western and eastern front and it would be a easy victory for the entente. i know this last part is quite fanciful.

First, welcome to the board!

Second, how are you so sure that a restored french monarchy would have led to worse franco-italian relations?

Third, i might agree with you on the prospect of a franco-spanish alliance. The french legitimist Bourbons were quite close to the spanish carlist Bourbons, even to the point that the french legitimist pretender from 1887 until 1909 was also the carlist pretender to the spanish throne. If Henri of Chambord decides to support the spanish carlists in their war against the Spanish Republic and get them to win, then we might see a franco-spanish alliance forming, or at least a friendly relationship.

Possibly because of the Bourbons of the Two Sicilies.

More important, the fate of Rome. The Legitimists were hardcore Catholic and Chambord could not abide any reduction of the pope's temporal authority. Things could begin to relax after his death and the Orléans' accession to the throne.
